Here's for all fans of this trilogy (yes trilogies are technically series). So please rant or rave about the books here.

Melody Polson (dancinhrblady) | 9 comments As a middle school teacher, I was stunned to see the readership take off for this series.
The material is very dark, and after a series like Twilight-- vamps that sparkle, this was very different.

Boys and girls read it readily-- and talked about it freely. The idea of a dystopia was new.

I enjoyed the character development... not too many twists, but of course it was written for a market. The plot was well written; I don't recall ever saying to myself "Wait... what?"

Personally I found it not as dark as some material I have read targeted at the same market. It is interesting that dystopia was new to these kids as I know many over in Australia have to read Lord of the Flies from around year eight.

The wait...what moments in a book sometimes bring it to life for me though. In a suspenseful thriller kind of way where it is a major twist.

Narisha (NerNer2685) | 6 comments I read and enjoyed all three books.
It actually only took me three days to read them all.

I recomend them to everyone.

Bev (greenginger) | 296 comments I dont think these books are about violence they are about the effects of control and violence. The characters are well written and the story original. They will appeal to young people but us oldies should not dismiss them because of this.

message 6: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Yes, I agree 100% Bev. They are fantastic books and what makes them great is that ANYONE can read them. In 20 years time I will pick them up again and reread them!!

I'd give any children I may have these novels to read also. And yes I will re-read in the future. I found it interesting that people were talking of plagiarism in regards to these because of the Japanese Battle Royale. But from the sounds of it they are similar ideas yet different takes. And it is not as if people are not allowed to have different takes on the same idea. That is where our fantasy and sci-fi genres came from.

Nicolle I find people who want to put down people's work for 'plagiarism' just annoying and sad. We live in a post-modern world so it is hard to come up with totally new things. Yes, someone created the first book with aliens and since there have been hundreds of those, someone created the first dystopian book and now there are loads of those. Some people are ridiculous.

I agree with you Nicolle

I constantly argue the same thing. The only way a book is plagiarism in my eyes is if it contained the exact same story with names changed. When authors tell a similar story it's not plagiarism it's simply taking the same idea and telling it their way.

although the books were intended for a more juvenile audience, i liked the books a lot! The there was perfect, the plot was really good (even tho there were moments that were awkward), and i loved that the character's (katniss) main priority was love (even tho we think about it everyday).

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Loved the first two books. The last one got too political for me to gain much interest.

Caitlin | 2 comments I loved how the first 2 books were easy to follow along with. But the third was hard to really get into. Really slow in the beginning but once I got past the boring political stuff it got really interesting and invigorating.

Melissa Eisenmeier (carpelibrumbooks) | 64 comments They're easy to read, and I was intrigued by Katniss having PTSD, but the books didn't do anything for me.
