What does it take to merge books

What specific information is required to get books to show up on a merge?

I'm currently reading the Avatar: The Last Airbender books and I've come across an alarming amount of bad information. it seems just about anyone added books and no one has touched it. One reviewers actually commented he couldn't find a Avatar book he was looking for and just added it, then a reply came in later with the correct book. Both are still there.

I would do it myself. Really I would but when I try to combine they aren't showing up. Editing each book is getting a little cumbersome. If I knew what I needed to make it work I would put it in and do it. Honest.

There were mistakes in author profiles. I've combined the authors and the various editions.
