Veronica Roth came to your town to talk about it? Lucky!!!
I'm pretty sure it's Toe-By-Us

I do think that toe-bye-us is the correct way to say it, I just think the other way sounds better.

When I meet someone with an unusual name or unusual spelling of a common name, out of respect, I pronounce the name the way their parents intended it to be pronounced, or the way they themselves want me to pronounce it. I don't insist on pronouncing it the way I think it should be pronounced. Some people get really offended if you pronounce their names incorrectly. Veronica Roth gave him the name, I think it would be disrespectful to pronounce it any other way than the way she intended it.

It's too much nitpicking for a fictional character...

I was just stating my personal opinion. You can pronounce it any way you want. Obviously it would be different if the original/intended pronunciation was unknown. In this case it is known. I personally try to pronounce it the way the author did, if that is possible, because I feel that is respectful. I never said anyone else had to agree with me, or that my opinion is law.

En español se pronuncia To-bi-as, porque la i no se pronuncia como e

I find it inersting how this is a pretty big topic!
The name Tobias looks Romantic(as in relation to Romance languages), and therefore it should be pronounced like it would be in a Romance language: [toh-bee-uhs] Plus, [toh-beye-uhs] just sounds dumb to me, my way sounds much better and it's easier to pronounce it as [toh-bee-uhs] anyway. HOORAY FOR BEING IN THE MINORITY!!!

Since it's from the Bible, then TOBYEUS wouldn't be the classical way of saying it. Don't you know that it would originate from Hebrew/Greek/Latin, all of which pronounced "i"s as [ee]? If it were to be spelled Tobaius/Tobeius, then yes that would sort of be the correct way. So you mean to say that's we say it, not "how they say it." Not even proper grammar btw(it isn't present tense you want; you want to say "SAID")

Then you should probably avoid watching the movie, as it would likely be fatal for you to do so.

that makes sense. I mean, otherwise it just sounds like he's some old guy Tris likes to be with.
eww. (*smiley*)
