Jacqueline (brightonreader) | 15 comments Read this about 40 years ago. A man who is obsessed with collecting and owning only rare and unique things meets and marries a woman who has no navel. Don't remember the author or title, and would love to read it again. Can anyone help? Thanks very much.

Andy | 2124 comments There's a woman with no navel in William Tenn's "Wednesday's Child" - which is the sequel to his more famous story "Child's Play" in which the woman is created (as a baby) by a man with a "Bild-A-Man" kit that somehow traveled back in time to be delivered to him.

Jacqueline (brightonreader) | 15 comments This sounds like it might be it. I'll check my library to see what they have of William Tenn. Don't know whether the one I'm thinking of is "Wednesday's Child" or "Child's Play," so I'll look at both. They might be in one of his anthologies.
Thank you so much for replying. I had just about given up hope of every receiving a reply.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Sometimes these book mysteries are solved years later, for example by new members to the group.

Please don't forget to come back and let us know if this is solved or still unsolved! :)

lol, I was thinking that if this is the answer, you found out REALLY Fast Jacqueline. I have books that I've posted that have been on here for YEARS. And others that were solved after being up on the list for years. But when you do find one, its such a GREAT feeling. . .

Andy | 2124 comments William Tenn's short stories were collected a few years ago in a three volume set that you might find in a library (or via interlibrary loan).

I should look back further for some of your old searches then...

Yes, I checked the titles on Amazon and saw that his stories were collected in that three-volume set. I've already put a reserve on for the first volume, at my library. I'm hoping the story will be there.

I definitely will, Cheryl. Every mystery needs closure - lol.

Thanks for telling me that. I'm so delighted to know that my days of wondering about that story are finally over.
