What can we say about the child in a family versus the orphan? One is cared for, taught right from wrong and supported and encouraged in maturing into a caring and productive human being while the other is not. But if we are honest the modern family bears little resemblance to the families that truly provided the guidance that young people need.
A parent that is never home because he/she is trying to earn enough to pay for braces or food doesn't have time or energy to shephard their child(ren) through the struggles of growing up but maybe the churches can help fill the gap.
Girls and mothers are more likely to talk than boys and fathers (even when separaration or divorce hasn't kicked him out of the family). Boys particularly are expected to magically develop a healthy understanding of their place in the universe and act responsibly. Yeah! Like who can they learn from, ... their peers? They, like us, learn by trial and costly error about what behaviors will be tolerated by others and what will not be. There is no such thing as magic even though itis fun to watch Harry Potter movies.

Ok, what are we going to do about it?
