Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Marialyce, added you to my back up list too, for Jonathan Strange, so your covered.

My stomach and garlic in the morning, ummm, it says no.

Sounds delish...I would add an egg to it :)

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments I've added Sandi to the buddy read of Thomas Costain's Napoleonic historical fiction book Ride With Me but other readers are welcome. Currently the readers are Laura, Misfit, Dawn and Sandi.

We are still looking for other reader to join Sandi, Ron and Dawn in this historical pirate adventure by Wendy K. Perriman Fire on Dark Water.

Dawn... I'm ready when you are, just say the word. I read the first chapter just to give myself a taste (it is intriguing) but I can wait for you.

message 205: by Marialyce (new)

Marialyce Great book but you only can't read just the first....
Enjoy them!

message 206: by MichelleCH (new)

MichelleCH (lalatina) Hi all, wanted to see if anyone was up for a buddy read of The Name of the Rose with me and Sera on August 1.

message 207: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments Kim and I plan to read it at some stage but I'm not sure if we'll be ready by then. I've got a Gone With the Wind buddy read starting soon!

message 208: by Laura (last edited Jul 15, 2012 06:02PM) (new)

Laura | 102 comments I'm going to read Ride with Me with Dawn and Misfit as sons as Dawn manage to get this book.

I have signed up for a Blogging Reading Event called Austen in August hosted by Adam at Roof Beam Reader (an awesome fellow blogger, by the way). Feel free to click and check it out if you're a blogger and would like to sign up too. But...my main point is...I plan to read Sense & Sensibility for the event. Would anyone have that on their TBR pile and like to join me in August?

message 210: by MichelleCH (new)

MichelleCH (lalatina) Lots of cool buddy reads!

I would, if I hadn't just read it in March.

Laura, I have one on order so keep your fingers crossed that this one works out. I didn't want to say anything for fear of jinxing anything with the luck I've been having getting this book. LOL

BTW, Sandi will also be joining us for Ride With Me.

Hayes, let me finish the one I'm on and I also have a library read I need to get to in the next couple of weeks. Maybe I can squeeze it in after my current read. Would that mess you up too much? I will probably need a YA dystopian escape then. We've been out of town and will be away on Thursday and probably Saturday but I will try to keep you informed. After that things will/should settle back down and I can get more reading done.

It looks like it will just be the two of us for the read :(

message 214: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette and I have both started, but I am reading about a chapter a day, so I'm sure you'll catch up with me. I'll slow down a little (but it's pretty exciting; don't know if I can resist!) I'll finish my Kathy Reichs book first.

Hope you enjoyed your vacation.

message 215: by [deleted user] (new)

I will finish Hunger Games tonight. You shouldn't have gotten me started on it, Hayes. After that I am considering reading Wuthering Heights for Diane. Kim and Jemidar, are you up for WH??

message 216: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm poking along with HG, so don't tell me nuffin'...

message 217: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments Jeannette wrote: "Kim and Jemidar, are you up for WH??"

I'm not. I've got a Gone With the Wind buddy read with Anna starting Saturday.

Hayes wrote: "Again!?! Glutton for punishment!

Sherry just started it, and I thought I might encourage her. Plus, I promised one more read, so I can write a decent review.

Have fun with that! :) I doubt Kim is all that interested in WH....

message 220: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments No, she's not. I think I'm kind of forcing her into it as moral support!

If I didn't have so many unread books...you tempt me to pull this out and reread it. Love this book! Hope you enjoy it.

Jemidar | 358 comments Jeannette wrote: "How far down on your calendar do you think your read is?"

I honestly have no idea Jeannette. We kind make it up as we go along :-).

message 224: by Marialyce (new)

Marialyce Are we still reading Benjamin Franklin: An American Life in September?

message 225: by Geevee (new)

Geevee I am if I can get the copy that's held by my library (on loan and can't reserve yet as I'll get it too quickly).

message 226: by Marialyce (new)

Marialyce Great Geevee...I think we were originally scheduled for August, but I am hoping we can push it back to September.

Please let me know as soon as you get this book.

Geevee Marialyce wrote: "Great Geevee...I think we were originally scheduled for August, but I am hoping we can push it back to September."

That's fine with me Marialyce as I'm grappling with a weighty Max Hastings book, and want to finish a couple of Robert Goddards too.

Michelle, Unfortunately, I've already read this one but will be interested to see what you think. What a library he describes in that book!

Bev wrote: " But...my main point is...I plan to read Sense & Sensibility for the event. Would anyone have that on their TBR pile and like to join me in August?"

I'm not sure if I can squeeze it in and am trying to figure out things now. Suddenly August has filled up with reads, but will let you know. I could have sworn there was a discussion about reading Sense and Sensibility recently, hopefully they will see this and join in.

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Marialyce wrote: "Are we still reading Benjamin Franklin: An American Life in September?"

Ron, said that would be fine as he dashed out the door to go pick up the last copy of Hunger Games at the library so I can try to catch up with Hayes.

I'm putting together an updated buddy read list which will reflect the change.

Hayes wrote: "Jeannette and I have both started, but I am reading about a chapter a day, so I'm sure you'll catch up with me. I'll slow down a little (but it's pretty exciting; don't know if I can resist!) I'll ..."

Hayes, see above. Hopefully Ron will be able to pick up the last remaining copy of HG. Surprisingly they have no Kindle versions. I called to try and put that last one on hold but was told I wouldn't be able to check it out today, they would mail it to me and from past experience that would take over a week. What a screwy system.

Jeannette, I didn't even know you were interested in reading HG, I thought you had the opposite reaction when Hayes and I asked for others to join us before. It looks like you must have liked it since you are finishing it up already so that's a good sign.

I wasn't interested in reading it, but Hayes started it just as you were leaving for the weekend, so I sort of volunteered. I will review it later today. The other two in the series have long waiting lists, so I won't be reading them anytime soon.

I can just picture Ron at the Library: "But you don't understand... if I don't bring home this copy of Hunger Games my wife will never forgive me... and I'll have Hayes on my case all the way from Italy!!

;o)

Not to worry... I'm still finishing up the Reichs book.

Oh good, I thought I was going crazy, I couldn't for the life of me remember you wanting to read it, so was quite surprised. Geez, we go away for a long weekend with no opportunity to get online and look what happens, you go to Europe for weeks and no problems LOL. We will be out of town tomorrow and possibly Saturday and may not get a chance to get online, so try not to miss us too much ;o) I guess we will have to join the 21st century and get a smartphone or an I-pad so we can stay in touch during these situations.

I've made a point of not checking reviews or comments about the book or series, including stuff on the movie, so I probably know much less than many readers. I won't be peeking at yours, unless it comes up in my feed, but I will try not to look even if it does come up, no really I will.

Hayes, Ron just came in with a beat up hardcover copy from the library so I have HG now. Hopefully I will be starting in a couple of days.

Hunger Games is a quick read, Dawn. It's a pretty good YA story, without any magic or dragons. ;)

Too funny, thankfully Ron was able to get it. Apparently we were lucky they found this copy, it had been dropped off at the wrong location and just came back to this branch. So we actually have someone to thank for bringing it to the wrong branch. Oh, the drama! Thank you honey and Hayes thanks you too!

Now let's hope it's worth it!

Starting HG tonight! Finally.

Jeannette, I hope I enjoy as you did, don't think I will go through it as quick as you did though.

message 238: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 20, 2012 11:49PM) (new)

Finished the Reichs book yesterday so I will now concentrate on HG. I haven't gotten to the actual Games but the beginning is intriguing and very well done.

I'm happy to, Sera! I'll post the thread closer to September 1. It's my first Russian, so I'll need the group's encouragement, starting with the positive review from Marialyce! *thanks*
