I am not certain where else to post this; an author I know asked me via Facebook to check into whether a certain GR account (he named the user) is a spam account. According to him, this user has been giving 1-star reviews to many authors and positive reviews to only one author. I don't like to post the information here, but if someone "in charge" would send me a PM, I'll give you the questioned user name and the information from the author who asked me. Thank you very much.

I've noticed that in the past couple of days, a number of spam accounts were set up (apparently from somewhere outside the U.S.) in order to create fake listopia lists solely designed to promote a number of specific TV broadcasts, mostly of sports events. No books are added to the lists at all; but, rather, the comments section is loaded with key words and web links designed to attract search engines and bots. For an example, see this list:http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/20...
I've flagged several of these fake accounts (and lists) for GR's attention by email already, but I'd rather not turn into a nuisance myself by flooding GR's "help desk" email account.
Is there anything (else) librarians can/should do about this?
Thanks in advance,
TA
