Joan On Jean M Auel's Books: After The Mammoth Hunters the books became a little tedious for me and the last one Painted Caves was absolutely the biggest disappointment. It was like someone else (a very poor writer)had written them and regurgitated the same old stuff over and over. I loved Clan of the Cave Bears the best...maybe because it wasn't tarted up for mass appeal with a stone age romance? Not that I don't like romance, it just has to fit in with the story better and move it along.

I have to admit, I have been an Auel fan for years, but her last novel was definitely not my pick.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) I enjoyed all the books, but as most people say I did enjoy the first most of all. I think it depends on your outlook on reading - I read as a pastime - not as a critic. My favourite genre is historical romance - so these books sit fine on my shelves (or in my kindle these days)
