On This Day In History - Introductory Note

The original title was: Events On This Day Worth Noting But That For Our Purposes Here Do MUST Have Had Their Memory Immortalized in the Movies and in the Books.

That title is somewhat long, you must admit, so I chose to put a simple one instead.

I've just watched the news and was quickly reminded of the books and movies connected with the events mentioned in the news. I will post some right now for an example. If you are aware of some events that mark a day which we are in, please feel free to post them here. Don't worry - you do not have to elaborate them in such a way as I did in some.

If the date of the event is new, just add a new topic in this discussion thread -- now closed, see below.

By the way -- this is a thread made just for fun - I certainly do not intend to post the event threads every single day, definitely do not have that much energy and time! Same goes for you, write only when you like if you like, no pressure :)

Due to some plans we mods have for you (and us) in the near future (oh yes, I hope you'll like them when you see them!) I decided to close this folder, On This Day In History.

When I started it, it seemed nice idea, my geekish sort of cool, because I love to learn something new every day, especially historical facts and facts about books and movies. So I did fumble for a few days with this idea, but quickly lost an interest due to many other tasks that always seemed more important than this. Now it's time to close it for good - there are going to be some really more interesting stuff here in the group.
