Jamie During the Hunger Games premier I saw the preview for this movie. Later, I saw the book at Kroger and went "Holy Crap there's a BOOK?!" Sadly, I haven't been able to read it yet, but have no fear!! I really want to!!! I just think it's unique and I don't have to read the summary to know that I will love it. Especially since we are learning about the Civil War right now :)

Gretchen Read it right now. Get off the computer and stop all other things and go read this book!

message 3: by Jamie (new)

Jamie But I don't have it!!! :'(

Gretchen Go reserve it at the library before the wait list becomes too long.

Katherine The book is totally epic. Even my history teacher loved this book. I can't wait for the movie. I bet it will be rated PG13 of R. :)

I'm such an idiot. I never thought to do that. I have a NOOK and I just get digital library books, but they don't have many or I go to my school's library.

message 7: by Jamie (new)

Jamie If it's R then they wouldn't get many viewers. just saying...

Gretchen Burton's Sweeney Todd was R and that was really gory. I can see him taking this that far but maybe not. Sleepy Hollow was even an R though and it was no where near as graphic as Todd. Hmmmm I have a feeling it will be R.

My hubby is a history teacher and we both adore the book too. It is the wonderful combination of satire and actual factual history. It is so accurate about Lincoln's life except for the whole vampire part which is fiction......maybe.

Tina I loved the book and can't wait until the movie comes out. My son loves it too.

Jane Atchley Yes. Loved it! Looking forward to the movie.

Becky Yes, this book was amazing and I can't wait for the movie !!

message 13: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I feel like I'm the only one who hasn't read the book.

Jeanine I loved the book. Weirdly, it made total sense.

message 15: by Amanda (new)

Amanda My brother read this book a few years ago and raved about it to me. He doesn't read a lot and very seldom loves a book but the whole premise mixed with his enthusiasm really made me want to read it. Unfortunately I haven't yet but when I saw the movie trailer I think now I'm gonna wait for the movie and then read it. I'm in the middle of reading two series at the moment and simply don't have the time to add to it. I can't wait to read it though.

Darcy I loved this book. Didn't know there was a movie coming out. Can't wait to see it.

Christian Just finished the book. Loved it. I am looking forward to the movie. The director is also a good one. He's russian, but he directed Wanted with Angelina Jolie, James McVoy and Morgan Freeman, so it should be pretty good. But I also see it being pretty gory.

I am curious though. I was looking to see what actors were in it, and there was somebody listed as Harriet Tubman. Did I miss something in the book? Where was she mentioned, because I don't remember seeing it anywhere.

Melanie Just finished this book and reviewed it. Highly recommended reading and I will be seeing the movie to compare!

Kim Kramer I loved loved this book. I am a history buff and love the story of Abraham Lincoln. I can't wait to see the movie.

message 22: by Jeff (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jeff Loved the book! also a fan of Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (especially cause of his movie "9")but still a little skeptic because of the whole "books are way better then the movies" arguement. Just hope they stay as true to the book as they can without "Hollywood-izing" it too much just so they can get more ticket sales.

message 23: by Matt (new) - rated it 5 stars

Matt The book kicked ass!! I think the movie looks amazing. I can't wait to see it.

Chris Ledoux The book was so good. The problem I have is that the best parts were the internalized wandering through the mind of Abe Lincoln and what he thought about everything he was going through. ( like the incredibly depressing death of his first child...not a spoiler, it's history ) I'm nervous about the screen adaptation, how could it possibly be as good. To me, movies usually leave out all that in favor of focusing just on the action.

Kay I have to confess that I was disappointed in reading this book. I felt that too much attention was paid to historical happenings and the pacing was dragged down and off because of that. However, the movie trailer looks great--maybe it fixes the long passages that dragged for me. I'm looking forward to the movie.

Arthur Well, obviously my first impression after seeing the title was like : Okay... I'll just scroll down to find some other options about vampires. But then I thought that I should give it a shot. And you know what? It didn't disappoint, the book was amazing! I pity the fools who judge a book by its cover or title, I know I won't be doing that from now on :) Oh by the way, the movie will be a blast! P.S. I made a quiz about this book, try it out and let me know if you liked it! http://www.goodreads.com/quizzes/tag/...

Too much attention to historical happenings? You did catch the part where it's about Abraham Lincoln right? I'm not trying to be rude, but there was no other way to tell this story. The whole concept of the book was to tell Lincoln's life (taken true events and facts) and weave the vampire hunter aspect into it--not the other way around.

For me, the concept of this book was brilliant and I loved it. When I first heard of this book, honestly I thought it would be horrible. I mean, come on, Abraham Lincoln (one of the most influential and historical figures of all time) leading a secret life of a vampire hunter? WTF? Curiosity got the best of me and I bought a used copy of the book. It sat on my shelf for quite a while before I decided to give it a go. I was hooked from the beginning. I didn't realize there is a movie coming out until I had almost finished the book. I watched the trailer for it yesterday and I must see it!

message 28: by Tami (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tami Movie looks like it will be really good.. I wasn't at all impressed with the book. The concept was great, but there was too much about Abe as a politician and not enough about him being a hunter. The story would have been better, for me, if it were told from the POV of Henry and NOT from Abe's diary's.. Or even if there was maybe some back and forth.. idk.. i just didn't like it.. took me forever to read. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was better.

message 29: by Lin (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lin L I thought the book was a good read if Abe really had to slay Vampires in his time! I will watch the movie in hopes that they make it close to the book because it's a great idea!

Rashed Al Shamsi Take it from me the book is AMAZING

Too much attention to historical happenings? You did..."

Thank you so much for your response. You're not being rude at all and I was delighted with a thoughtful reply. I did catch that it's about Abraham Lincoln. I recently read Queen Victoria Demon Hunter and that book worked a lot better for me. It wasn't as epic as Abraham Lincoln as it only dealt with a part of her life. I did love the trailer and am looking forward to the movie. I just find myself puzzled on why I was so disappointed with this book as so many loved it. It's possible that I had very large expectations after reading Price and Prejudice and Zombies. Abraham Lincoln was an amazing historical figure without the vampires--I just didin't see it as adding or changing anything significantly.

Beth A. Funny that's my feeling about these kind of books...would Abraham Lincoln have been so amused...or Jane Austen? I also don't mean to be rude but with this new trend I often feel the need to stand up for people who can't stand up for themselves anymore. Or maybe zombies just doesn't make me find those girls antics anymore amusing...I don't even like Jane Austen lol. But I do think Abraham Lincolns real life was pretty significant to him.

Not everyone is going to like the same book. The reviews for this book were pretty mixed, so it kinda falls into that love/hate category. I haven't read the other books you've mentioned in your post (Queen Victoria Demon Hunter & Pride and Prejudice Zombies), so I can't comment on those. Oh, I agree, the trailer for the movie looks amazing!

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) I saw the book at the library awhile ago (last year, 2 yrs ago?) and went o.O Abraham Lincoln is a what? Of course, I had to get it. It was a pretty good book. I enjoyed it. lol

Drrowdyd It obviously not just you. However I was extremely disappointed. I was hoping it wasn't, but it turned out to be - a crazy title pandering to our basest instincts for blood and gore. Not a lot to save this sad sensationalism.

Harley I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. I found the book entertaining and fun to get lost in the story. It was interesting how the author combined historical Lincoln with vampire fiction. All those years splitting logs with his ax came in handy later on in life.

Angel / YA rules!/ I really, really hope so... *fingers crossed*

Yeah, that's for sure.

then, I can't wait for the former US president to kick some vampire ass on screen... =)

With Tim Burton on the job the movie is bound to be kick-ass.

Melissa Bee It took me a while to work up to purchasing the book and reading it. I mean the first time I saw it I thought the staff at Barnes and Noble were going to ask me to leave becuase I couldn't quit laughing (rather loudly actually). What pushed me to the point of picking it up was a comment from someone who said (paraphrased), "If Abe was a vampire hunter then whoever killed him must be seriously kick ass!" I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! On the plus side I learned more about the historical aspects of a US President then I ever learned in school.

Margie I finished this book about 2 weeks ago and loved it! Now I am having a difficult time finding a new read that will live up to it.

Shannon Pickett I only read this book because I was just sure it would suck. Boy was I so wrong! The way the story was told and weaved with faux history was fantastic! I just hope the movies is as good as the book.

Arthur Margie wrote: "I finished this book about 2 weeks ago and loved it! Now I am having a difficult time finding a new read that will live up to it."

Also, other work by Seth Grahame-Smith will totally live up to your expectations.

Deanna I read this last year when it first came out and realized they were making a movie. I LOVED the book and found it so very creative they way he weaved history into an entertaining, fantasy story. I am totally thrilled and very anxious to see it! It looks amazing! :)

message 46: by Sue (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sue For me, this is THE movie of the summer. This is one of my all-time favorites and I think this movie is going to be BUG NUTS CRAZY! With yet another summer of sequels (did we honestly need a MIB 3?) and superhero movies (yes, we all loved the 'The Avengers') we need a little a crazy.

message 47: by Jen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jen totally epic!

Ernest Gonzales I enjoyed reading the book but cannot see Abe's ending going down the way it did.

message 49: by Dyan (new) - rated it 5 stars
