my almost 12yr is over goosebumps and wants to read something a little more grown up but i am not sure what to recommend her...Does anyone have any ideas?

Tammy ~Witching Hour Reads~ (03tammy-lynn) | 327 comments You could try fear street by RL Stein, if my memory is correct I think there is only kissing in them.

Abby Yea it's only light kissing... I remember reading those as a teen... LOVED them!

Laura Thomas (laurathomas) | 175 comments I was going to suggest Fear Street also. My son went from Goosebumps to these. I still love all of them, I must confess. You may have seen a tweet or two of mine that say Beware, you are in for a scare!

Lol Laura that is awesome that you tweet that. I tried to get her into fear street but she isn't interested in them because she feels she will finish them to quickly and she wants a challenge. I put her onto harry potter but she finished them and they werent scary enough haha.

I have tried her with the immortal series by Alyson Noel but there was to much focus around sex and trying to "Do it" for my liking even though she did enjoy the books. Argh teens...they are so hard to please haha.

I have told her though that I am buying fear street whether she wants them or not because i enjoy reading them still hehe :D

Abby I miss those books... I lost them in a move... I loved the 99 fear street books the most... I've been looking for files for them but can't ... And the libraries don't have them anymore either...

Try the used book stores and thrift shops. They usually have a lot of them. One time I went into a small local thrift store and came out with a large box full of them, only slightly used. There were a lot that had alternate paths you could choose in the books.

Tammy ~Witching Hour Reads~ (03tammy-lynn) | 327 comments I have heard that the vampire kisses series by Ellen Schreiber is tweenish Vampire Kisses The Beginning (Vampire Kisses, #1-3) by Ellen Schreiber
Also you could try The night of the solstice By L.J. Smith Night of the Solstice (Wildworld, #1) by L.J. Smith & Heart of Valor Heart of Valor (Wildworld, #2) by L.J. Smith

My son is 12 almost 13 and he really liked the Maze Runner series. I only read the first book though. It was good but not super scary. Is that what your daughter is looking for? I'm always looking for series for my son too. He's not a big reader so it has to be something that really catches his attention.

Anna If she is not into paranormal try Helen Grant. She is a English YA writer who has been on the Carnegie shortlist. But preread them first. 'Katerina Linden' was excellent with a 12/13 yr old heroine, but be careful the first half of the book seems quite innocent-the second half certainly is not, but there is no sex in it. I can't say more without a big spoiler. The second book has some light romantic interest. Both are thrillers. I would say they are 13+.
The Vanishing of Katharina Linden by Helen Grant and The Glass Demon by Helen Grant

Anna You could also checkout Marcus Sedgwick - another carnegie winning author - probably 12+ if they're not squeamish: My Swordhand is Singing (My Swordhand is Singing, #1) by Marcus Sedgwick or Revolver by Marcus Sedgwick

Thank you all so much, I have found her some more reading material that she is excited about though she has informed me that she has to read the Iron Fae series first lol.
