Students will submit homework by sending you their homework via the send message option on your profile. You will send a response with their grade and any other comments.
Teachers will also periodically give tests in place of homework. Tests must be given at least once a month. You must state that the assignment is a test, and it will count more than a homework grade. Once again, I must approve the test before hand. To assign tests, insert the test in place of the homework for that week.
Feel free to create a welcome page by following the assigning homework directions, except change the topic title and your post.
When assigning homework:
1. Click "new topic" in the discussion section.
2. Fill in the title box with "First Year Homework." (you will have to follow these instructions 7 times to create a homework page for each year (Second Year Homework, Third Year Homework, etc.)
3. Click "Select a Folder" and choose your subject's classroom from the drop-down menu. (steps 1-3 you will only have to complete once for each homework page, not for each homework assignment)
4. Type the date followed by a dash followed by the homework. Click post. Then click edit at the TOP of the page by the word "First Year Homework." Be sure to check the box that says "Close topics to all comments."
5. For future homework updates, merely visit your classroom and click on the "Homework" discussion. Click on the edit beneath your original post, NOT at the top of the page, and enter the homework below the previous week's homework. Do not erase the homework from the previous week.
Also involved with being a teacher here at Hogwarts is grading homework assignments. Assignments should be graded on content, grammar, spelling, and originality. See below for the grading policy:
Passing:
O (outstanding): No errors
E (exceeds expectations): missing a few minor points, but well written and descriptive
A (acceptable): several grammatical/spelling errors and missing some topics
Failing:
P (poor): numerous mistakes and missing ideas
D (dreadful): very poorly written with no apparent understanding of the topic and missing major points
T (troll): horribly written with little or no relevant information or even plagiarized
Please hear me loud and clear when I say that no Hogwarts teacher will accept plagiarized information. Any homework that is copied from another website, someone else's assignment, etc. will receive an automatic T.
Lastly, there will be end-of-year exams which will ultimately determine if a student advances to the next year. They must complete all homework assignments for the entire year and receive a passing average (homework and tests) and final exam grade. You will be responsible for creating your end-of-year exam which must cover all the topics discussed over the year and must be approved by me beforehand.
Each academic year lasts for 15 weeks. Therefore, you should assign 14 homework assignments, as well as several tests (because the final assignment during the last week will be end of year exams). If a student has received passing averages in all of their subjects, they may continue to the next year.
Feel free to send me a message of you have any questions. Thank you!
