Jess | 3721 comments Is she considered an urban fantasy writer, or a parnanormal romance writer?? At first I thought she might be PNR, but then her books never really ended with a happy ending, and it wasn't focused around two characters who were in love. Which I think are the requirements to being considered parnanormal romance. But the love interests pretty much stay the same throughout the series. hence my confusion! lol

I have no idea! Definately has the serial romance thing going in the Reilly series. Considering the content of her Guardian series, she could also be considered Erotica :-)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I would definitely call Keri Arthur urban fantasy. Just highly sexed, lol.

message 4: by ♥Tricia♥ (new)

♥Tricia♥ (siddie) | 132 comments Her Destiny Kills seems to be PR because it has a happy ending as well as the romance between 2 characters. I am not sure if this was stand alone or what but I enjoyed the book quite a bit :)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Tricia,
I think you're right; in fact I just had an epiphany about it, lol.
I bought Destiny Kills because I moderately enjoyed the Riley Jenson series, but found DK to be a little dull for some reason. I'm still working on it.
But I flipped through just to kind of see where it was going (I can't help it. I always do that.) and saw that it had the HEA, and I got really confused... like, how is this supposed to be a series? You can't have an HEA at the end of the first book if you're doing a series. It never occurred to me that these ones might be PNR rather than UF. Now that you said that, it was like "Ah! I get it."

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I haven't read anything by Keri Arthur, but I just saw her book Full Moon Rising. Any thoughts on it? Any good or should I start with something else by her?

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Is Full Moon Rising the first Riley Jenson book?

They're pretty good; if that's the first in the series, then yeah, totally go for it! You're probably better off to read them in order, though.

The only thing I would warn you about is that though they are often labeled PNR, they're definitely more urban fantasy. There is no primary romantic storyline, though the main character has relationships with several different guys, a couple of whom are present throughout all the books.
And I was a little caught off guard by how open the main character is with casual sex and public nudity. (I swear she's naked more than she is clothed...) Once I got into the flow of the series I was more okay with it, but it threw me a little at first.

message 8: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments Yeah, it says that's the first Riley Jenson book, so I guess that I will give them a try!

Thanks for the warning though, that stuff doesn't bother me, but's it's always best to kinda know ahead of time! You're just not always in the mood to read a book with a bunch of sex in it.

Jess | 3721 comments I love Arthur's Riley Jensen series. Although it does get a little tiring for Riley to constantly save everyone from the bad guys.. but still I like her.

I read DK also, and I also can't really figure out why I didn't like it that much. The only thing I can say is that, I wouldn't mind reading the next book, just to see where it goes. But I probably won't ever re-read the first one. Does that make sense?

Kelley - I actually liked Full Moon Rising least out of all the seris, so if you're a little disappointed.. keep going! lol.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Nicole, thoughtful caution on Keri Arthur. I've seen it recommended (without any explanation) to people that will probably be offended by the content. So inconsiderate, better to inform and let readers make informed decisions.

Destiny Kills & the latest Reily Jensen are on my TBR, whenever I get to them *sigh*

message 11: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jessim) I finally read Destiny Kills. It was only ok. Kinda of boring in places, not nearly as good as the Riley Jensen series. I think she should stick with vampires and werewolfs.

message 12: by ♥Tricia♥ (new)

♥Tricia♥ (siddie) | 132 comments I must read her other stuff then, because I thought she did good with that book :)

Though it came at a good time when I wanted something totally different. hehe

Laura | 97 comments Has anyone read the two part series including Beneath a Rising Moon ? They look pretty good!

message 14: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 6 comments I've read the whole Riley Jenson series...I absolutely LOVED it!! I have Destiny Kills but haven't read it yet.

message 15: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Laura - I'm not sure what you're talking about but I'm interested! I've read her Riley Jensen series and also Destiny Kills. Is the name of the book Beneath a Rising moon?

message 16: by Laura (new)

Laura | 97 comments It's another series, different from Riley's. There are two books one is rising moon and the other is Beneath a Darkening moon, maybe...it's about twin werewolf girls...looks good!

message 17: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I'm going to add them both to my list. Thanks for the suggestion!

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I read the blurb for Beneath a Rising Moon; is it set in the same world as the Riley Jenson series?

message 19: by Laura (new)

Laura | 97 comments I don't know...I wonder though...

message 20: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 6 comments I have her Nikki and Michael series from before she wrote any Riley Jensen books...there are 4 I believe. They sound pretty good but I haven't read them yet. Nikki is human and a detective, cop, PI or something, with psychic abilities and she meets Michael while on a case and he is a vampire...then they fall in love. :-)

message 21: by B (new)

B | 82 comments Has anyone read any of Keri Arthur's Spook Squad series? (Starts with Memory Zero.)

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Memory Zero is on my TBR. Read Nikki & Michael, think finished but then she started Riley and didn't do any more.

message 23: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments Right now, I'm in the middle of Full Moon Rising. It's good, but I'm glad to hear that the series gets better after the first book. The thing though that I am really not liking is how they portray the werewolves as almost slaves to their desires! I don't know, it just seems to make them seem weaker than the werewolves that I've read about it other series. Just my opinion.

I really like Quinn though, is he going to be in the later books or just this first one?

message 24: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Kelly Anne, Quinn is absolutely delicious :> but to answer your question he is in all the books but not always as a major character. Were's seem to be horney in a lot of series but I do think she takes it to the extreme. The naked in the clubs and the sex in the club was different got old for me really quick but I am really glad I stuck with it. Very excited about the next one :>

message 25: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments So I just got my hands on a couple of Ebooks by Keri Arthur. Beneath a Rising Moon and Beneath a Darkening Moon. I read the first one last night, and I really enjoyed it. It's set in the same world as the Riley Jensen series. One thing that I didn't like though is I probably would have been a bit confused about a few things if I hadn't read some of the Riley books first. I mean, in the first couple of chapters, the main character Neva is talking about the moon dance and being at a dance where everyone is basically matting, but Keri Arthur never really explains why it's all happening. It was almost like she was expecting that you would have read some of the Riley books first.

Has anyone else read this series?

message 26: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I've had both of those on my list of books to read, but I couldn't find the books and then I sort of forgot about them lol. I don't know if I like Arthur enough to spend the time and money finding those two.

message 27: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 6 comments I noticed a couple of our local book stores had the first two of the Ripple Creek books so I picked up Beneath a Rising Moon. :-) They do have the second one too!

Yes and I concur about Quinn...he's a hottie!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Teresa wrote: "I have her Nikki and Michael series from before she wrote any Riley Jensen books...there are 4 I believe. They sound pretty good but I haven't read them yet..."

I picked up the first two in the series the other day. They look good, so I figured I'd give them a go.

message 29: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments *Spoilers for Deadly Desire*

So I just read the back cover blurb about the new Riley Jensen book. The love triangle between Riley, Kye and Quinn seems to be heating up! So apparently because Riley is half vampire/half werewolf, she pretty much has 2 souls and 2 soul mates. So, here's my question, do you think that from her actions and such, is she more werewolf or more vampire? Because whichever she's more of, it seems likely that's the soul mate she'd choose.

Personally, I've always seen her more as a wolf, just with a few extra abilities. She was raised as a wolf, acts like a wolf and thinks like a wolf! I think that if she had met Quinn and Kye at the same time, there would be no question. She'd be with Kye! The problem comes in with the fact that she's been with Quinn for a while now and has fought hard to keep that relationship going.

Any other thoughts?

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 292 comments I absolutely LOVE the Riley Jensen series!! This was like the 3rd PNR/Vamp series I read after twilight and I just LOVED it!! I love the fact that Riley is half vamp/half were! I really consider her more wolf than vamp since that is really her dominant half in my opinion and how she was raised! The whole two souls/two soul mates is rather interesting tho!!! I can't wait til the next book comes out! I have to say I'm a major Quinn fan and not really caring for Kye just yet... But I would guess if she had met Kye first or even at the same time as Quinn, Kye would have won out hands down.... but we'll see how it all plays out...

message 35: by LooLoo (new)

LooLoo I had this series sitting in my TBR pile but decided to start it based on Susan's reviews. She was right, I loved this series. It keeps getting better and I can't wait for the next book to come out. Definitely in my top 10 favorite series maybe even top 5.

Shay People, I've got a big problem with the Riley Jenson series. I got so addicted to it that i missed alot of sleeping hours. i even considered taking a week off work just to finish it. i couldnt stop reading. i think i fell in love with Quinn from the first scene and my boyfriend got tired of me trying to change his name or gluing artificial fangs to his teeth while sleeping. and then i got to 'The Darkest Kiss (#6)'. And everything changed. The problem was that it had an ending. sure, Arthur left alot open for next books, but it was the first time i finishd a Riley Jenson book and could smile and breath deeply without worrying what will happend next. And when the anxiety cleared so did my addiction. That is why i did not pickup the #7 book yet. I just love the peace and quiet. So i want you all to think very hard and answer honestly: are the next books woth it?!?!? ;)

Shay, I laughed while reading your post. I can relate. I stumbled, happily, on this series when there were 4 books out to get at once. I don't know if that was a good or bad thing b/c it let to Riley withdrawl waiting for the next book to come out.

I too waited quite a while between book 6 and 7, not feeling that pull that I always felt once I had the book in my TBR stack. This series would always jump to the top of the stack - drop everything else and read it.

But, I have to say that I enjoyed book 7, Deadly Desire, and I've ordered and anxiously await book 8, Bound to Shadows.

Book 7 was good, but not 5 ★ "yum, yum, thank you, may I have another" for me. Quinn is definitely one of my all-time fav vamps and I wanted more. I did enjoy the bits with Kye Murphy and want to see what happens next.

All I can say is ... go for it, don't feel bad, you know ya wanna, everyone does it ... LOL

Let me know what you think of book 7, if you decide to return to the world of Riley. :)

Karyn (karyndias) | 15 comments Steph, totally agree with you on book 7.
Shay, go read NOW. You want me to send it to you?

And yes, book 6 was the first book where i was completely happy after it ended. I hated when Quinn was being difficult. That whole scene at the charity (or party?) and then at the hotel afterwards was awesome.

Book 7 is good. I wish there was more of Quinn in it, but other than that - totally perfect. The build up to the ending scared the shit outta me..cannot wait for book 8..i could keep going on and on and on...

message 44: by Shay (new)

Shay Thanks Stefh, Its good to know i'm not alone. i must admit. i developed a cliff-hanger aversion b\c of the Vampire Academy series (Ahhhhhh cant wait, cant wait!!!) so i have desided to wait for #8 on the Riley to come out, get it, and then read #7.
And then maybe i'll go see a shrink for all the anxieties, aversions and indecisivness. Then again, maybe not!

K, Thanks for reminding me that Charity\Party\hot hotal scene with Qiunn (There was a shower involved no?) *sigh*. I'll take your advice and go read like the good girl that i am :)

message 45: by Karyn (new)

Karyn (karyndias) | 15 comments Yes yes yes..there was a bathroom scene..like the one she imagined with Quinn in one of the books before..Sigh..i want me some quinn
I'm gonna be reading book 7 before the 8th one comes out..to refresh my memory..might read book 6 also. that was my favouritest - for the way it ended

message 46: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 292 comments I agree with Steph and K!! I think it's way worth it! Quinn is still by far my fav! I have to say I don't know if I like where book 8 might be going, but I'm DYING to get my hands on it and find out!
