You shouldn't have said that! That was a very important element to spoil =(

Yes, this is worth the read. The Giver is the first dystopian-themed fiction I've read and it remains to be one of my favorites because of its simplicity and good story. Gathering Blue and Messenger (its sequels) are also good, but The Giver is the best IMHO.

YES IT IS WORTH THE READ!!! My teacher was 50 and he read it to us he and the whole class loved it!!

They aren't a continuation, they are their own unique stories. That said, Lois Lowry leaves it up to the reader to decide if they tie in or not. I say they do!

They aren't a continuation, th..."
Well, in the forth book coming out.. the main characters from the first book and second book come together... but i think there is a different main character. SO it is kind of like a continuation but the stories dont really go anywhere, but the Forth book is going to be different.

No spoilers!!!! :)
I'm looking forward to the next book. Perhaps they're meant for a younger audience, but I happen to enjoy stories about utopian/dystopian societies.
I recently read the first two books of Ally Condies, which could almost be a copy of Lois's world. But they have more of a high school romance feel to them. Worth checking out if you like this typce of story.

Same here!! and dont worry i wont spoil :) yeah i was planning on reading Matched! Well i think the Giver was one of a kind even in this genre because it was so different.
