July is hot, and we need a short book! I am nominating Fahrenheit 451

message 3: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 490 comments I second A Scanner Darkly.

message 4: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (steffersdoes) | 16 comments Third, A Scanner Darkly! I love 451, but I've read it more than Scanner.

message 5: by Traci (new)

Traci I've never read A Scanner Darkly. Never seen the movie. And love Phillip K Dick. :)

message 6: by Laz (new)

Laz the Sailor (laz7) Well since there is also a Classic selection, I'll offer something newer here. How about This Is Not a Game, which is an interesting spin on social networks etc. Or perhaps Spindoc which is a little more futuristic.

message 7: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 490 comments I first read Dick starting with A Scanner Darkly in high school for English.
My teacher was a big fan of Dick, the book being of his all time favorites, but stopped teaching after film came out, I was in the last class that he taught the book to.

message 8: by Sonia (new)

Sonia O'Brien (soniaobrien) | 8 comments I'd definitely go for Fahrenheit 451. Love it and would love to read it again.

message 9: by Brian (new)

Brian Jones | 2 comments How about Man on a High Castle also Philip K. Dick.

You guys-by nominating so many different PKD books, you will dilute the vote!

message 16: by Candiss (last edited Apr 15, 2012 01:08PM) (new)

Candiss (tantara) I'll help mix things up by nominating a recent-ish (2010) book that also happens to not be written by PKD. ;)

The Quantum Thief by Hannu Rajaniemi

message 17: by Leon (new)

Leon Hennings (leonhennings) I nominate The Good and Evil Angels.

The only current review here on goodreads isn't very encouraging, but I, and the reviews over at amazon can vounch for it's quality.

Also, because only one user has rated it so far, our reviews Will paint the entire picture.

I tried to see if The Good and Evil Angels is easy to find or not...it looks like it is out there, albeit kinda spendy for a paperback, but I will add it to the nominations for you...

message 20: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 490 comments I would like to nominate When Gravity Fails by George Alec Effinger.
