Suz | 4428 comments Good idea Sally!

No, apart from today buying my son a pair of Roosters Quiksilver boardies today. First present. Only cause they were half price!!!

Do you buy people books as presents, or is too hard to know what to chose?

message 2402: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments I only buy books as presents for my husband, as I know his taste well. With other people, it can be a bit hit/miss.

What new authors have you discovered in 2015?

message 2403: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments Lisa Gardner, Harlan Coben, Joyce Maynard to name a few!

Do you read aloud to anyone?

message 2404: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments I often read particularly interesting or amusing passages to my hubby.

Have you ever discovered a book on your shelf which you were quite certain you had read but, on closer inspection, found that you hadn't?

message 2405: by Neko (new)

Neko Yes..That usually occurs when I cull my book collection. It's why I try to mark them off on here as quickly as possible in case I muck up.

Are you into any types of art (as in doing them for yourself).

message 2406: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6882 comments The most artistic I get is colouring in.
Book you are most looking forward to reading?

message 2407: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments Middlesex for me at the moment, I think.

A book you were most excited to start reading recently?

message 2408: by Neko (new)

Neko When Fraser Met Billy: An Autistic Boy, a Rescue Cat, and the Transformative Power of Animal Connections - When I discovered it in Big W this Monday I was really curious to see how the book would play out...As working mostly with autistic children I have an interest and then I love cats sooo it was a perfect combo...The book put a great smile on my face while I read the book. Really recommend if you've an interest in either or both!

Have you ever thought of taking up calligraphy?

message 2409: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Suzanne wrote: "Middlesex for me at the moment, I think."

Hah — I bought that one recently (haven't had time to take a peek, though)

Yes, I have thought about taking up calligraphy. I was re-inspired by visiting the exhibition of the Rothschild prayer book, and other hand-lettered prayer books from the period, in Canberra and Melbourne recently.

Have you seen any interesting exhibitions recently?

message 2410: by Neko (new)

Neko Not recent but around the middlish of the year I did go on an art trail that's always great to see each year.

Is your mobile phone kept up to date or do you just stick with it until it conks out?

message 2411: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments LOL — my mobile is so old it has a rotary dial!

Do you synch your devices over home wifi?

message 2412: by Neko (new)

Neko Yep..Most things are on the wifi.

Are you looking forward to Summer?

message 2413: by Noelene (new)

Noelene | 364 comments Love summer. Holidays, cold drinks, more daylight, more time to read.

Who is your favoutite crime detective?

message 2414: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments The only similar character to that in my line of books is the ever sexy Myron Bolitar, of Harlan Coben.

What is your favourite book character, of all time??

message 2415: by Neko (new)

Neko Tin Tin I guess

What's one thing you wish you could improve in yourself?

message 2416: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments Employability. Is that a word? I say it is!

What are you good at?

message 2417: by Neko (new)

Neko Reading people

Do you own a tablet?

message 2418: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Yes, my hubby recently bought me an iPad and I am very attached to it.

Do you prefer "Gutenbergs", ebooks, or audio books?

message 2419: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments Audio

What is something that you enjoy eating from a culture that is different to your own?

message 2420: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6882 comments Suzanne wrote: "Audio

I adore Lebanese food.
What movie did you hate that many other people loved?

message 2421: by Susan (last edited Oct 20, 2015 02:50PM) (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments I ♥ Huckabees. I hated that film on every level!

Which author/s do you hate that everyone else seems to love?

message 2422: by Noelene (new)

Noelene | 364 comments Stephen King ( maybe it's the genre)

On a island like Robinson Crusoe, what book would you want to have with you to read?

message 2423: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments That would have been my answer too, Dale. Tabouli is my latest thing lol.

The closest answer to this one would be good ol' Danielle Steel. I don't think hate is a word readers would often use, but I know people would have an opinion on liking this author. Love reading her books!

A book that you hear non reader friends talk about?

message 2424: by Neko (new)

Neko 50 Shade of Gray

Dark or milk chocolate?

message 2425: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments Of course Laura! Good answer lol.

Milk.

Does this constant weather change drive you batty, or does it not bother you?

message 2426: by Susan (last edited Oct 21, 2015 08:17PM) (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Drives me batty!

Have you actually read, or do you intend to read, 50 Shade of Gray? (We won't tell!)

No, no interest at all.
What book are you looking forward to reading?

message 2428: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Next up is So We Read On: How The Great Gatsby Came to Be and Why It Endures. I recently re-read The Great Gatsby, and am intrigued to know more about the story-behind-the-story.

When reading classics, or modern classics, do you like to get a feel for the context first, or do you prefer to jump right in?

message 2429: by Neko (new)

Neko Jump right in...I don't like to know much unless it can't be helped!

Do you get offended if someone doesn't text you back? (Q stems from a convo i recently had w/a friend)

message 2430: by Suz (last edited Oct 22, 2015 05:00AM) (new)

Suz | 4428 comments I do get a bit annoyed if it requires an answer or acknowledgement, so yes! Good question Laura.

Does it annoy you that your partner/closest person or people don't read - are you surrounded by enough readers?

message 2431: by Neko (new)

Neko I'd like to have more readers around me..i used to but that changed. I'm the only real reader in my family now days as well...So yes, i find it annoying.

Do you ever use GR on your phone?

message 2432: by Noelene (new)

Noelene | 364 comments No. Don't use apps on phone. My phone is just a phone unless I am really desperate and use free wi-fi if no other access to the internet.

What would your reading room look like if you could have one in your house?

message 2433: by Dale (new)

Comfy chair and shelves and shelves of books.

message 2434: by Neko (new)

Do you like sitting outside in the sun to read?

message 2435: by Suz (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Hiking

message 2438: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments My 3 year old does, room for his but not for mine. Nice pic Susan!

Do you like just looking at your bookshelf/books?!

message 2439: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Yes, I find it very soothing.

Do you have a favourite reading spot, or is it a more portable activity for you?

message 2440: by Neko (new)

Neko It's both for me. I am currently in one of my favorite reading spots while i surf on my phone...But yeah it's also a portable activity for me too.

Do you own any pets? If not what would you like to own?

message 2441: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments We used to keep cats, but they were so badly behaved we don't feel up to having any more. So my answer is "a cat, but only a very, very good one".

If this were a real product, would you be tempted to buy it?

message 2442: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments No, I'm bad with gimmicky stuff and am 'anti stuff' if that makes sense. I'm a chucker, not a gatherer!

What's your worst ever chore, something that you loathe with a passion?!

message 2443: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 87 comments Cleaning the bath - have to do it though as black rings are very unbecoming!!! My husband has a chemical intolerance so he can't handle most cleaning products BUT he does all the ironing which is my second hated task so I am happy with the division of labour :)

Have you started getting ready for Christmas yet?

message 2444: by Dale (last edited Oct 27, 2015 09:22PM) (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6882 comments Sally906 wrote: "Cleaning the bath - have to do it though as black rings are very unbecoming!!! My husband has a chemical intolerance so he can't handle most cleaning products BUT he does all the ironing which is m..."

Have done some shopping as I have seen things. And bought some lovely Christmas decorations through Fair trade.
What is your favourite Christmas tradition?

message 2445: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments We make special Christmassy scented candles, and a spiced coffee blend.

Speaking of Christmas, do you like fruitcake?

message 2446: by Noelene (new)

Noelene | 364 comments I do but my sister as a young child would sit there and pick out all the sultanas and then eat what was left. We use fruit cake as dessert for Xmas day as we are not lovers of plum pudding.

Is there anything that you horde (apart from books)?

message 2447: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6882 comments special cards and mementoes from family and friends
