message 2351: by Neko (new)

Neko Tintin...lol I used to spike my fringe like his and pretend to go on adventures as a child.

Do you prefer long novels or short ones?

message 2352: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments It all depends on the story, and how much time it needs.

Speaking of stories, do you prefer novels or short stories?

message 2353: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments Novels.

Who is your go to author where you know you don't have to think twice?

message 2354: by Neko (new)

Neko Amy Tan

Do you like puzzles as in jigsaw puzzles?

message 2355: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments Yep I kind of end up doing the kids ones of they're not too hard and can be put away (no room for big ones)

When was the last time you bought a book?

message 2356: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Two days ago.

Do you have access to a good public library?

message 2357: by Noelene (new)

Noelene | 364 comments Our closest library is over 15 km away. Up until a few years ago before amalgamation of shires you had to pay a hefty fee of over $70 per person for the privilege of using it. It is now free and has had a major upgrade and is wonderful, but too far away as public transport is limited here for a lot of people to access.

I will join again once I have the time to spend hours just sitting. ( Retirement plan)

What is your preferred length of novel?

message 2358: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Noelene wrote: "Our closest library is over 15 km away. Up until a few years ago before amalgamation of shires you had to pay a hefty fee of over $70 per person for the privilege of using it."

That's outrageous! My public library is free, and we have an excellent public transport system, but I haven't yet seen any of the books I requested over six months ago, despite being (allegedly) No. 1 in the queue. Grrr!

Re the preferred length for a novel, as I mentioned above, it depends on the story, and how much time it needs. But if I had to be more specific, I'd go for the Goldilocks option — not so short that it feels insubstantial, and not so long that it seems it will never end.

Do you enjoy memoirs?

message 2359: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments Yes I do.

Do you enjoy reading a lot of non fiction, or occasional?

message 2360: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 87 comments Very occasionally - then mostly travel memoirs :)

When our weather is hot do you like reading books set in winter and vice versa?

message 2361: by Neko (new)

Neko Nah never thought of doing that actually.

Can you speed read?

message 2362: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments I learned to speed read in primary school, and became pretty good at it, but I never do it these days. I prefer to linger over my books, especially if the writing is worth savouring — which may explain why I don't read as many books as some others here!

Where do you acquire most of your books?

message 2363: by Noelene (new)

Noelene | 364 comments At the moment I am winning more than I am buying (entering competitions is one of my hobbies) after that it is the Book sale run by lifeline and swapping with friends.

What is the best prize you have ever won

message 2364: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Noelene wrote: "At the moment I am winning more than I am buying (entering competitions is one of my hobbies)..."

Wow — you are doing well!

When I was teenager, I won an LP in a contest run by the local paper. It was an obscure band I was crazy about, and I suspect I was the only person who entered the competiton.

Do you listen to music while you read?

message 2365: by Neko (new)

Neko no i find it's way too distracting.

message 2366: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Curl up with a good book!

Have you already started thinking about your 2016 reading list?

message 2367: by Ryan (new)

Ryan I've been so busy this year my 2016 reading list is likely to closely resemble my 2015 reading list.

How many hours a week do you spend on television?

message 2368: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Ryan wrote: "I've been so busy this year my 2016 reading list is likely to closely resemble my 2015 reading list."

LOL!

None. We have been known to binge-watch entire TV series on DVD or iTunes, but we never watch free-to-air TV.

Do you use social media (apart from Goodreads)?

message 2369: by Neko (new)

What novel/s could you never finish reading?

message 2374: by Susan (last edited Aug 29, 2015 09:01PM) (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments The Tin Drum Gah!

Permanent Midnight Urk! (Although my husband enjoyed it and has semi-persuaded me to give it another try, maybe.)

Has a book recommendation/gift/loan from someone in your real life made you rethink your view of that person?

message 2375: by Neko (new)

Neko Nah, just like we say 'never judge a book by its cover'..Applies to the person too.

Have you ever danced in the rain before?

message 2376: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Now that you ask, I don't think I have — but I have definitely run in the rain!

Do you still have any of your textbooks from school/uni?

message 2377: by Neko (new)

Neko Yes, I still have a few of those.

Do you like to read hyped up books or prefer to stay away from them?

message 2378: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments The more hyped up a book is, the less I want to read it. I may check it out after the buzz has died down; I like to make up my own mind, in my own time, rather than being swept along in the initial frenzy.

Repeating Noelene's question: What novel/s could you never finish reading?

message 2379: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Any of the Harry Potter books.

A book you would love to see perfectly adapted to film or Tv?

message 2380: by Neko (new)

Neko Nah cause I love my own imagination more.

Neko Yes, but not for personal use though.

Are you looking forward to the end of the year?

message 2383: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments No more so than usual, as we're not planning to do anything special over Christmas/New Year.

Has 2015 been a good year for you?

message 2384: by Neko (new)

Neko First half of 2015 was the worst I've ever experienced in my life(due to a number of different things). However, as we're now into the later half some things have improved and I'm a lot better.

What is one of your guilty pleasures w/food?

message 2385: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments @Laura — sorry to hear that, but glad that things are looking up for you!

message 2390: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments It's a beautiful day — a little chilly to hit the park, but as soon as the weather warms up, we'll be out there with our soccer ball and hula-hoop!

Have you recently re-discovered any childhood pleasures?

message 2391: by Susan (last edited Oct 04, 2015 08:43PM) (new)

What was funny that you saw/experienced today?

message 2393: by Neko (new)

Neko I laughed at a kitten on TV if you can include that...Yesterday was better though..My Mum, sister and I were rolling on the floor laughing over a mishearing by my Mum. It was so funny Mum had to walk out of the room to calm herself down. Then when she re-entered she asked what was so funny and neither myself or sister could really remember! lol

Suz | 4428 comments New York! I would loooove that.

Have you bought a book to discover you already own it?

message 2400: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 87 comments Too many times to mention - I also recently pre-ordered an ebook on both kobo and amazon and they both downloaded on the same day. I also requested a book for a review from a publisher - forgot I had and preordered it. The ARC arrived and luckily I was able to cancel the pre-order. SIGH. So I now have a preordered shelf here on goodreads - and a requested so I don't do it again...In theory......I can only hope ;)

Are you getting ready for Christmas yet?
