Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments A scene from The West Wing — a bit hard to explain, but it was hilarious — I laughed so hard I literally couldn't breathe. Then I asked my husband to rewind to see if I would have the same reaction the second time round. (I did.)

message 2227: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Cavanagh | 4 comments Just like trains have transponders, wouldn't it be great if all books had something like a transponder so all you needed to do to locate a book in your library would be to access that signal, much like people do these days when a mobile phone is lost ( they ring the number and follow the sound)

What do you consider to be the most interesting aspect about your love of reading?

message 2237: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments That it gives me the ability to look at things from other angles, whether it's by reading reviews, or re-reading a book and finding I have a different take on it.

Do you have a favourite book (or books) that you often re-read?

message 2238: by Stef (new)

Stef Rozitis all the Jane Austen books ESPECIALLY Pride and Prejudice :)

What is the best winter comfort food?

message 2239: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Steel-cut oats for breakfast! (Like the recipe I just posted here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...)

Is there a genre of book you would never read?

message 2240: by Stef (new)

Stef Rozitis I try to avoid romance as much as possible. Also anything with a lot of violence. True crime is not really my thing. Not mad on the sort of masculine action type stories. "Never" is a strong word but I decidedly turn my nose up at all those. Chick-lit is also very rarely my thing.

What book have you read that in your view many people misunderstand? Or that you disagreed with people on?

message 2241: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Stef — I agree with you on your choice of genres!

When I think about books which I disagree with people on, the first one that comes to mind is Sexual Personae: Art and Decadence from Nefertiti to Emily Dickinson — although I see there are quite a few people on GR who felt the same way I did.

Did you actually read the books you were assigned in high school English (and if you didn't, have you read them by now)?

message 2242: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments I always read them but didn't take enough time to care about/understand them properly. Interesting as I just realised now how little I appreciated them!

Which high school reads did you dislike/turned you off?

message 2243: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 87 comments None of them - although my interpretation of some of the themes often differed from that of the teacher!!!

What was your favourite high school subject - OTHER than English?

message 2244: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments That's funny as I would have said my english teacher! My maths teacher year 12. He knew I was struggling and told me to stay with 3 Units, but I wouldn't listen and I dropped to 2. Bummer.

What is your go to words of wisdom to someone younger? Your child or other relative/friend?

message 2245: by Susan (new)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments I gave up imparting my words of wisdom to the young folk many years ago!

message 2247: by Carolyn (last edited Jul 03, 2015 05:05PM) (new)

Carolyn | 9840 comments When I was younger I would have said landscape gardener, now it would have to be working in one of those lovely indie bookshops.
