Cheryl Barnes | 39 comments Jane was perfectly happy where she was, working as a teacher. All of a sudden she knew she needed something to change. I am the same, whenever I get comfortable I know something has to change. Is it because I dont like becoming comfortable and maybe stuck in a rut? I know I love being challenged, so maybe that's it, life HAS TO offer some of us a challenge.... who knows, but Jane certainly made sure she brought a big change into her life! Reading on....... :)

I am of like mind Cheryl. I get to a stage where I crave a change. Although at times it may not be the easiest it expands you, mind, body and soul. Kudos To Jane for taking that brave step. A single woman in that time going out into the unknown as she did is truly commendable.

Do you think she would have taken that step if Miss Temple never got married and left?

Cheryl Barnes | 39 comments No, I dont think so. She was content and enjoyed being under Miss Temple's guidance and sharing their days together. I think she almost saw Miss Temple as a mother figure. She was forced to look at her own situation when Miss Temple got married and realised she didnt want to stay. It usually needs something to change in a situation for people to really look around and see it for what it is. That is why I think change is GOOD! :)

I don't know if I agree. I think it was part of her make up to strive. I think in due time she would have looked outside the walls of Lowood to wonder what was out there. Remember, she was still very young and, yes, Miss Temple leaving was the push she needed then but I think eventually she would have taken the steps, with Miss Temple's assistance, no doubt. Change is awesome. ;) Without it we become stagnant and smelly. lol

I tried to put myself in Janes shoes to see what I would do, and I tend to think that I would eventually have left, whether it be through curiosity or boredom. Though I'm sure I would visit Lowood as often as life permitted. I'm not sure if I agree that change is good though, life is what you make it. Change can be good or bad, it's what you make of your life after that change occurs that dictates how good you end up smelling. For example, I don't think Jane would have liked being sent to her poor relatives as opposed to being sent to school, but I'm sure she would have adapted.

Cheryl Barnes | 39 comments Yes, true, it IS your ability to adapt to change that can make the most of a bad situation but I think if you are opposed to change you will have problems with your attitude towards what is coming. I guess it all boils down to who you are as an individual. Jane has a very strong character and she seems to adjust to whatever situation she finds herself in, probably because she doesnt have that 'THE WROLD OWES ME A GOOD LIFE' attitude that a lot of people seems to have these days :)
