Allison I have tried and tried to conjure up some sexy dark dude but this character keeps doing things that I find, melodramatic and, wince, feminine. Leather pants? Red silk? Hulk-like muscles? Help me. Give me an actor or a photo or something. To give my seed mental material. Please!

Rosann Pierce Bronson

Sara Go to Karen Moning's FB Page and she has all these pics of men who are suppose to be her inspiration for Barron. I think Karen's flaw is how she describes clothing. I mean when she is dressing Mac all I can imagine are these hideous outfits, the rainbow skirt just made me want to barf! She just posted a pic of a man laying on red silk sheets and she said that pic is where she got the idea for Barron or Barron's room something like that!

Allison Sara wrote: "Go to Karen Moning's FB Page and she has all these pics of men who are suppose to be her inspiration for Barron. I think Karen's flaw is how she describes clothing. I mean when she is dressing Mac ..."

Thanks for the tip. I'm on my way to the website.

Amos Cassidy I just ignored the descriptions that I didn't like and made up my own image...yum!

Jessi KMM's descripts worked for me. I like the frilly, pink, rainbow Mac, but I like the sleek black leather Mac even more...so does Barrons:) Part of the fun of reading is taking a smattering of description and making it work in your imagination. Sometimes, when I'm really into a book and want to envision the characters, I'll google things to help, like rainbow skirt, for example...I'll find one i like and imagine mac in that.

I imagine Barons as a darkish-skinned anglo with black hair and savage, not quite civilized, features. I googled pict (mentioned by KMM as possible heritage for Barons) and found a great website with an image that could almost fit how i pitcutre Barons.

http://www.conanmovieblog.com/2010/08... Scroll down a little for the image of the painted warrior with his hair pulled back. Now picture that man in Armani, driving an Aston Martin, and maybe you'll see what I see when I think of Barons... Hope that helps!

Miau I am feeling generous today, I lend you "my" Barrons: T.J. Ramini.

Anna's Herding Cats Mmmm. David Gandy is who I see as Barrons. I just did a post of him. Not sure how to add photos on here. But there are some on the link below that I really like.

Herding Cats & Burning Soup

Mmhhhh, not bad either.

Allison Hmmmm.... I think I found the problem. These men are, straight up, not my type. Not that they aren't 10's in their own right. I'm just definitely more of a blond aficionado. But that's not to say that I don't like brunettes. I think my Barrons is going to be that Werewolf from Trueblood. Maybe a younger Jon Hamm? Gerard Butler?

Jennifer Nice - so you are a V'Lane gal. I think Alcide would be good. David Gandy is beauty beauty beautiful...almost too much so. He's not beastly enough for me!

Allison Oh v'lane all the way, but I'm only 3/4 through the second book and I'm reserving my crush until I know whether V'lane is the big baddy ultimately. He's definitely in contention to come up in the end to be the author of all this badness.

Allison ....and my v'lane I got down. Gabriel Aubry. I think thats his name. Halle Berry's ex...so hot!

Totally Agree Gabriel Aubry is the perfect V'Lane!

Allison Gabriel Aubry is my Christian Gray. he's my Finnick Odair. He's my "insert impossibly hot human male."

Oh I think you are right. He is gorgeous and pulls off the brooding look I so often think about when i think of Barron's, well done you.

Dianne Kurucz Just looked at the David Gandy. Barrons of my mind scruffy version Gandy Candy is wright

Beth Roberts Hmmm. . .no, definitely NOT this David Gandy person - he's too prancy in his model underwear.

Gabriel Aubrey is definitely a good-loooking man, but as V'lane, well girls, sorry, but no. . .

No way to Pierce Brosnan, either - he's been done to death as the tall, dark and handsome. V'lane could possibly be an underwear model at some point, I guess, but Barrons? - no. Just no. Too conventionally pretty, all of these.

*sigh* Just nothing better than mind candy when it comes to books. . .

Holly Maybe i am too new to the series (only on book 2), but Barrons definitely doesn't come off as melodramatic or feminine to me at all. LOL

And I NEVER go for the muscle-bound guys, normally. But there is just something about Barrons that...makes my toes curl. ;)

As for visual inspiration. I know she based him on that actor from Witchblade, but I have a very clear picture of him in my mind, and he doesn't look like that for me. I prefer the completely made up version i have implanted in my brain than to any actor/model that's out there. :)

As I read further the character definitely became his own man in my mind. I also found that KMM relied less on that gothic look to describe him and as a result I was able to see him as the true sociopath I think the author believes him to be. But I looked up that show Witchblade, which character because the male lead, so says IMDB, is blonde and frat boy looking. Not a Barrons as I know him.

Jennifer He's dark haired - you should be able to find him by checking out her page or on FB. I am pretty sure he attended her big event in NOLA. I won't link, because I don't want to see him in my head. I have a much more lethal vision of JZB!

Elayne He is absolutely gorgeous in the pic on her facebook page!

Carole I think Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian & Dorian Gray) would be good as Barons.

Jill In some of his pictures yes, in others he looks to babyfaced. Barrons is a man (well in my head) I also imagine he needs to look like he has been through things, which we all know he has. He needs to look a bit burdened. Serious... burdened, dark, intimidating,a little scary (but in a good way right girls??) So maybe a little older..? What about http://images2.fanpop.com/image/photo...
Jonathan Rhys Meyers???http://www.google.com.au/imgres?q=jon...

Anna's Herding Cats Beth wrote: "Hmmm. . .no, definitely NOT this David Gandy person - he's too prancy in his model underwear.

Oh that made me laugh. No, I don't see him in his prancy model underwear. He has that look which doesn't so much work for me. But the scruffy/dark/broody ones David Gandy does definitely do.

Elizabeth Lizzie Its definitely hard to imagine that there is an actual human to find that fits all the descriptions of Barrons. There is no human that is both dangerous and beautiful enough to qualify.

Carole Jill wrote: "In some of his pictures yes, in others he looks to babyfaced. Barrons is a man (well in my head) I also imagine he needs to look like he has been through things, which we all know he has. He needs ..."

I know what you mean about Ben Barnes looking young, but Jonathan Rhys Meyers is also too short plus too young. There isn't much choice in the older , mature goodlooking. I don't want George Clooney or Liam Neeson.I can't think of anyone else. Help?

Jennifer Elizabeth wrote: "Its definitely hard to imagine that there is an actual human to find that fits all the descriptions of Barrons. There is no human that is both dangerous and beautiful enough to qualify."

Amen.

Allison Elizabeth wrote: "Its definitely hard to imagine that there is an actual human to find that fits all the descriptions of Barrons. There is no human that is both dangerous and beautiful enough to qualify."

You're right. That's ultimately my problem with all these types of characters. They're turning right and left at the same time. Their outside the boundary of normal humans. Seven feet tall. Perfect teeth. Perfect skin. Inhuman abilities. Quicker than a cheetah. And on and on and on....i like a little humanity and some flaws in my men. It's the same problem I have when the discussion of their penises (snicker) start up. (Ally looks down the bridge of her nose and raises an eyebrow.) you can be too big....

Jennifer Allison, I know what you mean, totally, but of course I can't put Barrons in that category! But that's also why though I think lots of the men named here are lovely, they don't add up to JZB in my mind.

I loved how Mac always saw him as kind of creepy...esp. in Darkfever and Bloodfever...until she didn't. He could wear the civilized suit and own the fancy bookstore, but he was always the opposite of that.
(view spoiler)

Carole What about Rob Lowe as Barrons?

Carole Or Michael Easton who is John McBain General Hospital, Caleb Port Charles?

Oh Allison...what a relief to see someone else who wasn't impressed with the pictures painted of the leads. For a lot of the story, they put me in mind of a middle aged guy who maybe used to be hot dating a gum-chewing girl fresh out of high school.
I kept seeing this: Keeper of the Heart (Ly-San-Ter Family, #2) by Johanna Lindsey

Agree immensely! No baby faced Barrons.

Anita The photo KMM posted on her FB page yesterday (9/24) comes close if not nails it for me on what Barrons looks like in my head.

Allison Let me say this. I wrote that question after reading the first book. But I think Moning really toned it down and classed Barron's up a bit in subsequent novels. I am very critical of authors but I actually really like Moning, she's a great writer for that type of novel. But I think she needed to break in her characters a bit after a novel or two. Barrons is a toughie, he's not one dimentional so it takes some gray space to get to the point where a three dimentional character can be revealed. My Barron's is in my mind now. He kind of looks like an old character actor of the 80's but not entirely. I'm going to look for the guy I'm thinking of.

Carole after looking up david gandy and see the clip on youtube about him and the dogs in battersea - yes he is barron's
