Judy Haisten | 6 comments Hi All,
I was wondering when you sign a book, do you just sign your name, do you have a phrase you use, or what do you do? I don't like just signing my name, but I also haven't found a phrase or anything I like either. I'm looking for suggestions.
Thanks
Judy

Leila Summers (leilasummers) | 760 comments Hi Judy,
Great question! I have always written a phrase, usually a different one each time, but after I do it sometimes I think - that was a stupid thing to say! I'd like to get one that I'm happy with to use every time so that I don't have to think on the spot. On the other hand, I like to write something personal that might hold meaning for the individual. I've written things like, 'Keep believing, love Leila' or 'Follow your dreams' etc. Those are things I have learned through writing my story, I guess.

Perhaps you could find a phrase that depicts something about you or what you believe in. I'd love to hear what others do too. Thanks for making me think about this again, because I must find one that I really like (o:

Grace Peterson (gracepete) | 19 comments I'm not a published author yet but when that time comes, (hope, hope) I think I'd like to show gratitude to my readers when signing their copies. Something like, "Thank you for your support" or "I appreciate you"-- something along those lines. I don't think you can go wrong with an attitude of gratitude. :)

Judy Haisten | 6 comments Leila, I am looking for a phrase I like. I'm not crazy about the ones I've used.
Grace, I do like your thoughts about gratitude.

Karen Fisher-Alaniz (goodreadscomkarenfisheralaniz) | 5 comments I sign all of my books with "Your Story Matters." It's key to the book and to what I believe. My father started telling his story of his time during WWII when he was in his 80's and there are a lot of people out there who still don't believe that their story is worthy of telling. So, it's my way of letting them know in some small way, that I believe their story matters.

That said, I always ask if they'd just like a signature or more. It's important to ask. And by the way, my father signs under my signature with "and her Dad..." LOL He's 91 and he can sign whatever the heck he wants to!

I have that same problem. My script is horrible, and I'm often embarrased :)

Good for your dad! I bet your dad is so proud of you. I love that you share your success with him like that.

Jessica Kluthe (jessica_kluthe) I've been thinking about this a lot because I always freeze on the spot when I have to write in a greeting card or anything like that.

So, I've selected my favourite Italian quote to include when I sign my name.

By the way, I feel so flattered when someone asks if they can have a "signed copy." OF COURSE YOU CAN!
