Oh, sorry, it is some automatic selection - when I typed in the name , this one automatically got selected. Will change it ASAP.

read some 50 pages so far..a smooth read so far and im loving the narrative style and the philosophical punches squeezed within..

Just start this once and you would finish it in a go........I am pretty much sure about it.

Hello Ppl,
Couldn't access group for some time and was surprised no discussion had happened on such an intriguing book!
This is one intelligent author who plays with the readers and confuses them through the disorganized thoughts of his protagonist! Forget the literary devices, the small beauty in the ordinary seeming statements drive you crazy!
The essence of the book is explained very early in the book when the kids are debating about history. "history is that certainty produced at the point where the imperfections of memory meet the inadequacies of the documentation". The author goes about proving his point through flawed indivuduals who conveniently 'can't remember' the past to find peace.
More tease was the autistic kid and the reference to the broken egg in the first para of the book made by the mom. The author lets you make all possible conclusions since he has given us an unreliable protagonist!
I loved the part where Barnes breaks the 4th wall, so to say, through the words of Tony Webster's ex wife. 'You always want to know what happened next. Do you even realize that it might not be the point at all?' It's almost like he is admonishing the reader for getting confused!
This book makes you think. And think some more. And some :) Loved it!
The icing on the cake - 150 pages! :D

Of all things i am sure of like me most of the reader would have given this book a second read too. Now this was a book hardly kept by me by a booker prize winner. A tale of old age where you think life's lived and then suddenly an incident which makes you realize of all the things that happened in the past some odd 40 yrs ago.
A tale of resurrection of memories told more in a philosophical way. some great positives emerge in the first half of the book where the encounter of adrian with the history, the letter written to tony by adrian and finally the relavations of all the curiosities which was shown in this short British novel by Julian Barnes.
For me the best book read in this genre and in Julian Barnes a great author to count upon. A true 5/5 for me and to those enthusiasts who reads more of this type a highly recommended one...
“The Sense of an Ending” — which has just won the 2011 Booker Prize — Julian Barnes takes his place among the subtly assertive practitioners of this quiet art
The last day of the month, so I might venture to ask : what really did happen according to you?
You might post your inputs before reading the link below. or as you choose wise :P
This book has many interpretations thanks to the unreliable narrator. One of the best discussions I found on goodreads for this book - that opened up interpretations I never even thought of http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

definitely worth a read!
i read it only because it was a group read......good selection!
very well written book. the mystery unravelling as the story goes on ......keep the reader in suspense.....very good.....
i will remember quite a bit of this book even after a while i think.....and that is usually the hallmark of a good book.......
i did not give it 4 or 5 stars because sometimes the book seems to ramble on about philosophy and that equation irritated me ......
As it was quite a busy time for me, unfortunately could not read this book in time, though I had procured it. Will read it sometime in future. In fact, I am going to go through the group list and read all the unread books (hopefully)
Ankit hope you are around to take the discussion forward.
