Hello everyone, I'm Nicole (newly added), I read the Host after the Twilight series and found it much more adult and with broader conflicts (perhaps the alien thing speaks to me more than the vampire/werewolves stuff).
I agree with Whitney, Jamie is my fave too! He is the voice of understanding and a remarkable character that speaks to the openness of looking at someone for who they are, not by stereotypes, alien invasion, or whatever.
Ohh, wait, I forgot the original topic: Yah, Kyle...really didn't like him much. HEHEHE!
At first, I didn't like Kyle because of the brutal things he'd been doing to Wanda. But at the end, I understand why he's like that...to where the hatred fury for the souls came from. Every person has a dark and light side right? And for different reasons, sometimes dark prevailed...but the light side wouldn't fade. It's how I see why he acted that way. We have different opinions anyway. :]
Oh..and about Jared and Ian. I like them both...even though they're both selfish. In fact, it's common to be unfair just for the sake of your loved ones right? It's really difficult for the two of them when the one they love possessed only one body... :]
I loved to hate Kyle until Sunny/Jodi. Meyer describes him as being so gentle with her and how he held Sunny's tank because he didn't think it was right to leave her alone because she was so sweet.
Well guys. I think Jamie was the best character in the book, he had an awesome personality. I thought Jared was done well. Kyle... Well I geuss you had to have a character like him for the story to properly work.

Well i hated Kyle until like he found Jodie/Sunny but one of my fave characters in the book is Uncle Jeb lol
I picture Uncle Jeb to look like that old guy that takes Michael Keaton's character in multiplicity sailing.
i still didnt like kyle when jodie/sunny came cuz he only rly liked her at first cuz it was jodies body (in my opinion)
jamie was my favorite too! (and wanda, but not melanie...i didn rly like her that much)

I'm glad to feel like I'm not the only one who didn't like Melanie as much as Wanda. She was definitely strong to have survived so much but, so was Wanda, and she was a better "person".
Natalia wrote: "I read that the second part is "the soul""Woo Hoo, I certainly hope so. I also, heard that after Breaking Dawn has theatrical release, she will be publishing Midnight Sun. So 2 possible woo hoo's to hope for. =) And Uncle Jeb rocked! Just something about him.

yeah
yeah
I thought he was pretty hypocritical about that cuz he was so kind to sunny but tried to kill Wanda! Even though he was nice to Wanda after he met sunny, he was still rude to her until he brought sunny back. :/ I still don't like him.
:)
:)
I love Kyle from the beginning even thought he seems so terrible and everyone hates him . I love the way he loves Jodi. I think he takes care of Sunny because he feels Jodi's love althought she had died . And in many ways , it's very normal that he hates Wanda, because Wanda is one of the aliens, and aliens had taken the one he loves. Ian is an 'almost'-perfect man , but ... I don't like him :| < but i dont' hate him ... he's a handsome guy :-"> I like Mel. She's strong. Actually , i don't really like Wanda. Maybe because she loves Jared , i don't know . It's just like ... oh , forget it . I can't explain it clearly >"<
In the begining I didn't really like Kyle but i understood that he as was everyone else going through a hard time and couldn't trust anyone. But by the end I really liked him cause of sunny she brings out a whole nother side of him!
he is crazy and a total idiot, but he's funny and he remides me of Emmett from Twilight. plus he gets a real personality cange by the end of the book.
You're right! he's a lot like Emmett, but Em is more of a big bear type of guy. Kyle's just scary! Ian and Jamie are my favorite, beside Wanda of course
I know! Jamie is the cutest kid! And Ian is super hot. (at least that how i imagine him when i read the book.) and Wanda is so brave and sweet. and your right. Emmett is like a funny annoying big brother and Kyle is scary.
I think Kyle was a hypocrite i hated when he trys to kill wanda and then falls in love with sunny i thought was rediculous.
I totally understand why you guys all hate Kyle, but he's just like Jared was. Jared was totally angry and depressed and upset and just... sad. I mean, one of the only other people he had left in the world, his TRUE LOVE was gone, and some other THING had taken its place - in Mel's BODY! Think about it once. My memory of the part of Sunny/Jodi coming into play is a bit sketchy, but I remember thinking it was sweet, yet frustrating. He loved his Jodi, so I understand that he was kinda okay with Sunny. He never loved Mel, never even knew her. To Kyle, she was just another human who'd lost. To Jared, however, Mel was his life. He had nothing else. Before they'd found each other, Jared has literally no one else. After Mel was gone, he had only his promise to keep Jamie safe - to get him to safety, to Jeb.
I really liked Jeb too. He was a perfect leader, if not a little cliched. I'm sure you guys noticed how when he first found Wanderer/Mel in the desert, she said, "Our brother!" Do you guys think Jeb noticed that, and that's why he was so nice and... understanding, if you will? Do you think he knew that Mel was still there? That this is why they (mel/wanderer) made is so far into the desert?
And one more thing: do you think the nickname "Wanda" is suiting for Wanderer? I feel she went from being wise and kind of honored among other souls, to being some girl with a name from the 70's or 80's or something. Wanda just makes me think bright colors and bubble gum and frizzy hair. Thats just me. It irks me :)
((Sorry I kinda got off topic))
