Dan in AZ | 2960 comments 1. Divine Justice, David Baldacci. Continuation of the Camel club series finds Oliver Stone in a small town in Virginia that has it's own secrets.

2. Wicked Break, Jeff shelby. Noah Boyd communes with skin heads and gang members with expected results.

3. Liquid Smoke, Jeff shelby. Noah Boyd caught up with relatives - always a bad deal - in a case with surprising and deadly results.

4. Wild Thing, Josh Bazell. What's hiding up in the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota? Not bad if you skip the totally unrelated preaching in the index - unless you want to really, really know what Josn Bazell thinks about global warming. Huh?

5. Robinson Crusoe, Daniel DeFoe. Many years since I first read this. Turns out I'd completely forgotten a full half of the book, although that half didn't particularly interest me.

6. Calumet City, Charlie Newton. I didn't fine this one to be as good as Start Shooting which I read last month. Of course, this was his first one (see what you get by reading OOO), so maybe that's the reason.

7. Life on the Mississippi, Mark Twain. I really enjoyed the first half of this book. The second half was slightly less interesting to me.

8. Heart of a Killer, David Rosenfeldt. Jamie Wagner, an attorney, seemed at first to be a replay of Andy Carpenter, but as the book prigressed, the character changed.

9. Restless in the Grave, Dana Stabenow. Kate Shugat and Liam Campbell team up along with the usual cast of characters.

10. Raylan, Elmore Leonard. This is really 3 stories - all recognizable as episodes on the TV series.

11. The First Rule, Robert Crais. Elvis and Joe working to sort out the players including an unlikely baby.

12. Strike Dog, James Heywood. Second book this month that gave me a REAL surprise. First page is a shocker.

I read Calumet City after it was nominated for an Edgar for best first and was only lukewarm about it. Good to see that his writing has improved so I will put Start Shooting on my TBR list.

Melodie (melodieco) | 3679 comments Great month! I REALLY liked LIQUID SMOKE when I read it back in December. Terribly dark, but just a stellar read. Have been wondering if I could DH interested in reading RAYLAN since he loves the show.

I think Start Shooting was much better although the tone is pretty much the same.

Liquid Smoke was the second shocker for the month. As to Raylan, the episodes are recognizable, but there are plenty of changes. To be frank, I like the show better than the book.

Melodie (melodieco) | 3679 comments Well, if you like the show better than the book I'll save my money! He'd probably never read it!
