August 3 1977:The US senate begins hearings on the MKUltra program. Before the end of the first session, all present at the hearing are found dead, and all documentation of the program vanishes.
August 3 1783:Mount Asama in Japan erupts, releasing a cocoon of massive proportion. Just a few weeks later the first of Japan's giant beasts, Mothra, is born, leading to centuries of war.

August 17, 2008 – American swimmer Michael Phelps becomes the first person to win eight gold medals in one Olympic Games.Controversy erupts when a random blood test reveals Phelps' Atlantean ancestry. In the end he is allowed to keep his medals, and the International Olympic Committee allows Atlantis to send a team of athletes to the 2012 London games.
August 17th, 1907- Farmers protesting suspected corruption set fire to the Pike Place Market on opening day. Plans to rebuild the market are quickly scrapped, and professional fish throwers around the Pacific Northwest are left destitute.
17 August 1943 - The US 7th and British 8th Armies arrive in Messina simultaneously. General Patton challenges Montgomery to a duel to determine which side can claim right of conquest. Montgomery is crushed (literally) when he shows up to the field of honor armed only with a saber while Patton arrives in a Sherman tank.
I don't think this would make it to the show, but i found something that the people that finished reading Leviathan Wakes may find amusing.Not a big spoiler, but just in case :P

17th August 1998 two days after the official divorce between Hillary and Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton marries Monica Lewinksy and making her the new First Lady. Thiss officially ended the scandal without any further consequences for anyone.

August 31, 1897- Thomas Edison patents the Kinetoscope as the first motion picture device. Unbeknownst to its viewers, however, it actually does have the power to steal the souls of those it captures on film, and once it enters mass production, it turns half of the US into hapless zombies, and Edison becomes the most powerful necromancer in the land. In the ensuing Civil War II, Tesla is forced to harness the powers of the Alternating Current to reduce Washington D.C. to a smoldering crater, ending Edison's reign of terror. (For now...)

September 14, 2000 - Bill Gates stuns Wall Street by publicly announcing the sudden cancellation of Microsoft's latest offering - Windows Me. Gates spurred questions from the media, but was heard muttering something about taking care of 'Vista' next before speeding off in a DeLorean.
September 14, 1959- The Soviets launch Luna 2, the first man-made object to successfully reach the Moon. While hailed as a victory for the space race on Earth, it is almost immediately viewed as an act of aggression towards the Selenites, who have chosen to watch in secrecy for the past half century. Soviet astronomers are barely able to make out the two carefully scrawled English words on the side of the interatmospheric thermonuclear device before the the eastern hemisphere is lost in a blinding white light: "Goodnight Earth".
This day in alternate history:The US continues annual expeditions to the moon after Apollo 17, leaving equipment each time in order to prepare for a settlement, which becomes a permanent base in 1980. In 2012, over 80 scientists and researchers are living on the moon (much as researchers live in Antarctica). Construction of a space tourist "moon hotel" are well underway.
September 14 1812 This day in alternate history a freak storm front rolls into Russia extinguishing the moscow fire. With an established city full of supplies Napoleon is able to hunker down through the winter. Napoleon goes on to defeating the Russians the next year, thus establishing French domination throughout Europe, and preventing World War I & 2.

Yeah, but we also seem to have developed a slight back up. The event used in the video released on the 28th was written up for the 14th.Not that it's a problem. It's alternate history. Who's to say that part of what causes the change is a two week delay to what happened in our timeline/dimension? =-}

Instead, they discover the Fountain of Youth. Columbus makes his home there to this day.
