On pg. 129, Jack tells Véronique in no uncertain terms that she won’t be accompanying him to the mining town that day. Their discussion centers around the term “modesty.” What does Jack say about her dress (pg 130) and what do you think about his assessment? Especially from the male point of view? Is he right on? Or mistaken?
