Barbara "Broken Lives" by Estelle Blackburn is right up there...a superbly written factual account of Edgar Cooke's nightmarish reign over the streets of Perth. I received this as a gift after professing my love for "The Shark Net," and at the time couldn't appreciate the parrallels...in fact I cringed that anyone would consider buying it for me! Contrary to what I'd expected, I was hooked by the end of the first chapter. If you loved "The Shark Net" and "Dirt Music," I have no doubt that you will be engrossed in this true story...read it and let me know what you think!

Kallie Not about Australia, but Big Dead Place comes to mind as similarly insightful about place and sick culture imposed thereon. I loved The Shark Net more, its bizarre poetry. But I think that is a rare quality. I liked Dirt Music too.
