The Path to Victory : The Mediterranean Theater in World War II by Douglas Porch gotta start somewhere.
The April theme page is open for those who wish to join in with any good book covering operations during WW2 in the Mediterranean or Middle East:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Interesting Colin. All that was accomplished in just a couple ofyears? I'll add it but I cannot find it. Little help?
Go to my website at www.heatonlewisbooks.com and the youtube link is there along with Noble warrior video, and all of our books and projects.
I would like to suggest my historical fiction, The Big Inch, as it deals with the OSS, an American solution to the oil crisis affecting the troops in a mechanized war in Europe, and glimpse into Texas' homefront during the war. It's available on Amazon, Kindle, my website www.kimberlyfish.com and here's a #blogspotradio interview discussing the background. Thanks, Kimberly

The thread/page for the August theme read (any book or books of you choice that covers the S.E. Asia or Pacific Theatre) is ready and will be open for discussion a few days prior to August:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Which book are you thinking of bringing to the theme?
For the August theme read I am thinking of one of these three books:
Target: Rabaul: The Allied Siege of Japan's Most Infamous Stronghold, March 1943 - August 1945 by Bruce Gamble
The Kokoda Campaign 1942: Myth and Reality by Peter Williams
Kokoda: Beyond the Legend by Karl James
Not that easy to make a decision...I finally decided that I'll go with this one:
Seventy Days to Singapore: The Malayan Campaign, 1941-1942Since it's related to another book that I'm about to finish.
Did Singapore Have to Fall?: Churchill and the Impregnable Fortress

The only title I have, fitting the criteria, in the unread pile is:
by James R. Dickenson

So, I think I'm going to kick off the group read for August with this one:
Rampage of the Roarin' 20's: The Illustrated History of the 312th Bombardment Group During World War II
An early start on the Pacific/Asia read for me, too.
I've had it on my shelf for at least a year, and I'm about 20 pages into it so far.
I'll be reading
With the Old Breed at Peleilu and Okinawa. As long as I don't start & finish it before then.

Great book! Hard to believe I read it about 35 years ago when I was a sophomore in high school.

I'm with Marc, it is a great book. I look forward to hearing you comment as you read it.

Be keen to hear your thoughts on this book Lee as I have an unread copy in my library.

Excellent choice Tony!
I'll be making an early start with
Shockwave: the countdown to Hiroshima then finishing the month's read with
Target: Rabaul: The Allied Siege of Japan's Most Infamous Stronghold, March 1943 - August 1945 when I'm on holiday and baggage allowances kick in.
Since Jonny is read and keen to get started on his theme reads I have opened up the August page early for comments and discussions:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
I'm not quick to quote passages in the theme read threads, but would it please the group if I nibble my way through this ? My progress updates usually serve as proto-synopsis (50 pages of battle in 3 tactical sentences), to be recycled into the final review) Some people do like to follow them.
Hirohito's War: The Pacific War, 1941-1945
Hi Dimitri, actually just finalized The Fall of Heaven: The Pahlavis and the Final Days of Imperial Iran on my ereader so I am ready to start the next one - as a matter of fact I have this one as well, so I think I'll start this one as well Dimitri. Looking forward to hear about your progress updates, as usually.
Nibble away Dimitri and keep us all posted :)The August theme read page is now open for comment and discussion.
Now that September is looming near, do we already have a group read? As a suggestion, perhaps a theme read about partisan activities during WW2?
Hi Bou, I've got nothing set down for September, I've organised the group reads for every second month so members can have a break and see to other reading commitments but if there are enough people interested I'm happy to set up a partisan theme read for you.
For a partisan theme, the group may like my book Occupation and Insurgency: A Selective Examination of The Hague and Geneva Conventions on the Eastern Front, 1939-1945, which is a favorite of many senior Marine and Army leaders, as well as Gen (Ret) Secretary of Defense Mattis.
'Aussie Rick' wrote: "Hi Bou, I've got nothing set down for September, I've organised the group reads for every second month so members can have a break and see to other reading commitments but if there are enough peopl..."Ah, wasn't aware of that. I'll hold my horses until October :-)
I will make sure there is a partisan theme for 2018 if you like, just remind me when we discuss the themes for next year.
If members want to start suggesting some like themes for 2018 I'm happy to take suggestions. Some themes already mentioned are:Partisan & Special Forces operations during WW2
The final year of the war
Unit history (aviation, naval or army unit of WW2)
Any other suggestions for a theme? At this stage we will only be conducting theme reads every second month to allow members to get on with other group or private reading.
If anyone has a particular book that they would like to read as a 'buddy' read and would like to run the buddy read I will be happy to set up a page for discussion and e-mail group members to see if anyone else is interested in joining in.

How about a theme on naval aviation? That would cover U.S. carrier ops, flying boats and blimps. Also the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm, the French naval air and, of course, the significant Japanese naval air ops in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
Your favourite subject MR9 :)Yep I will add that to the list as I have this book that should fit in with that theme:
The Kamikaze Hunters: Fighting for the Pacific, 1945 by Will Iredale

Maybe something culturally themed? I wouldn't mind getting into this in a theme read. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

You have a week to work out which book/s you would like to read for the theme. I will set up the theme page a few days prior to the start of the month and send out a message to the group with the details.
