Lindsay (nerdyblackbird) | 3 comments I read this book in 5th grade. I'm 29 now, so that was a LONG time ago. I remember the cover being blue with a lamp post on it. I swear the title had something to do with Midnight (but I could just be making that up!). Here's what I remember:

A brother and sister are living in an old house. Their family is gone. They can't leave the house for some reason (they're either scared, or just can't). I remember them going into the yard, but not being able to go any further... Another family moves in to the house and the kids try to stay hidden because they're not sure what to do. In the end, it turned out the two kids were ghosts. Big surprise ending (at least it was when I was 10). I have been searching for this for years.

Sorry if it's already been posted. I tried sifting through the previously solved books and came across one that sounded similar ("The Old Willis Place"), but that wasn't it.

Anybody? I'll love you forever if you can help me solve this not-so-ancient mystery!

Dree I read a lot of ghost stories as a kid, and that sounds very familiar.

My best guess is The Ghosts by Antonia Barber. I actually have a copy in the garage. My cover was green, but I think it had two ghost-like kids by a lamp post.

I am a bit older than you, though.

Lindsay (nerdyblackbird) | 3 comments Hi Dree!

Thanks so much for your response. I thought you had actually solved it, and I was going to have to drive to wherever you are and give you a giant hug! But, alas, as I read further into the description, that's not quite it. A lot of the same elements, but I don't recall a murder in the story I'm looking for.

Appreciate your help though! Thank you! :)

Lindsay (nerdyblackbird) | 3 comments I solved it! The book is All on a Winter's Day. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25...

I promptly purchased a copy.
Thanks to all who tried to help. :)
