Anyone else find this book childish?

Delia I just don't get all the complaints about this series of books. It was written for teenagers and while not all teenagers act like this, it is first off FICTION and you have to take it from where it comes from. If you found it to be childish, then maybe you should not be reading a teen book to begin with.

Alicia Gomez I love this book and all the series !(:

Mariana I've read the 1st book only, but the way it is written is quite childish indeed. I can't comment on the other ones, I just hope the writing is better than on the 1st one.

Delia Victoria wrote: "Well i on the other hand love the series the only problem i have with it is that it is being to stretched out into to many books. Just kill Neferet already!"

I could not agree with you more.........kill the b*tch and get it over with!

Katherine this book explained everything way to much...really we got the point when she said that she was packing to leave...did it really have to describe what color and type her panties are???

I read five out of the nine books and I always find like I'm reading a children's book even though some of the content isn't at all for a child. But I just find that they wrote the character to dumb and ignorant. Then I realize the characters are teenagers and this excatly like a teenger would act if they are not mature. The story is interesting, but I think what people are having trouble with is, is being frustrated with the character's choices and their lack of maturity.

DC yes very much

Jasmine there are a lot of books for teens where they talk normally...im 19 and ive gone to several different schools...never met anyone that talked like the characters in the book.

Same here

Tammy I actually enjoy reading the series and look forward to future books, even the offshoots. I consider it "light reading," something I really don't have to think about while I read. Granted, some parts of very slow (I skim those portions). I would have appreciated the authors sticking to a more structured outline because it becomes very apparent throughout the story that they have no idea what direction to take some of their characters. I've gotten to where I try to figure out which portion was written by P.C. Cast and which portion was written by Kristin Cast.

Briana I can't really tell the difference but I do enjoy reading them I am on Destined. And even thought they were slow(it took me two years to get where I am at) it is okay. PS. I am a slow reader

Robynn I think that it was totally NOT childish I LOVED it!!!!!

Melody Yes, extremely. It was an interesting concept but the actual writing and plot seemed entirely to superficial.

Robynn Yeah but its perfect for teens trying to find an interesting series.

Melody I disagree. I'm a teen and all my friends had the same complaints as I did.
To each there own I suppose.

Robynn I guess but i still think its perfect for teens trying to find an interesting series.

Briana I agree, but everyone has there own opinion, and I found this book was good because I don't really read the vampire/romance thing (Like Twilight) but this book grab my attention in the beginging. Not many books I have found do this, grab your attention in the beginging, usually if they don't I put them back. As I said before though, I did enjoy this book.

Cookiemonster454136 Gatha wrote: "This book is very dump, stupid and idiotic.i hate it.it was childish, immature and illogical. The only reason as to why i read the book is because i wanted more vampire stories after reading twilight ..."

I have to agree with you. I read the first chapter and ended up throwing it down in disgust. Why? What is it with people and making their characters sound like Bella? The only reason I tried to read this book is because my friends told me it was really good, LIES!

Hannah I loathe this series. My mother had bought me the first four books the same week because she heard that teenage girls love it. Any book my mother buys me, I feel obligated to read.

Anyway, I hated the characters. They were made of complete stereotypes. Also, Zoey is a whore. No doubt about that... None of the characters were more than one dimension (maybe even less than one...if thats possible...). I didn't know what exactly the main point of the series was. It was obviously not a series like Sherlock Holmes where there is a different villain. It was just not going anywhere...Ugh. I really hated this series...

P.S. As for a series that grabs your attention, try The Shades of London series by Maureen Johnson. Now that is a good series!

Olivia Moore i find this book really childish, especially the pethetic attempt at swearing. I'd rather they just swear or not at all instead of using childish words like 'bullpoopie' WTF

Tennae I like a lot of YA series' but this set just got really..lame.. after a while. The writing became way too childish and the storyline was so warped it just wasn't gripping anymore, but good luck to all those hardcore followers Not everything can be for everyone.

message 73: by Rin (new) - rated it 3 stars

Rin I absolutely LOVED it!I have always loved fantasy and vampires.I may not be good at judging whether a book is good or terrible,I still enjoyed reading it.
I thought it was good, and the characters were really interesting.
@Briana and @Tami I totally agree with both of you.

message 74: by Laura (new) - added it

Laura Well...it is geared for a younger audience so I gave the book some slack until I got onto the 5th House of Night book. I decided to give the series up. It was just too long and drawn out! But I loved the characters :)

Jenna if people are still so hard up for vampire books read, JR Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood, or Sherrilyn Kenyons Dark hunter series both good series. They are for ADULTS so its not a YA read

I agree. I read it all but would never read any in the series.

Briana I thought the story line absolutely sucked! It was so awful, but.... I really liked the characters. Which is why I finished the first one at all. I don't like them, but I feel obligated to finish the series. I'm on Hunted right now and the only thing keeping me motivated is Stevie Rae and Stark. (cuz Zoey's a whore!)

Jenna i agree with the whole obligated to finish, im that way when it comes to reading also if i start something i gotta finish it......i might drag it out for a while but i will finish it adventually. But year i feel like i gotta see this series thru to the end but it does just keep going and going and going

Briana absolutely I'm feeling the same way about the Immortals series by Alyson Noel. Evermore was amazing and she could have gone in so many directions with it, but it just went downhill from there and right now I'm in Nightstar and I'm having an awful time finishing it.

Jenna thats how im feeling about fifty shades lol i didnt care for it but i feel obligated to finsih the trilogy

Lara I like that book, but in many situations that teenagers are childish.

You're right. I liked Marked. I don't understand why there's so much hate for it. SOOOO much better than Twilight!

Kenzie Yes! I agree too! It is a book for TEENS! So if people have a problem with it being "childish" then they should read something their age. Just saying. I like the books.

I agree!

message 86: by Val (new) - rated it 1 star

Val I AM 14 , so don't throw that "its like totally for tEeNs , old people can't like it " card . And please , try spelling out your words . I don't act like Zoey . And would never spend time with someone that I disapprove of . In Zoey world ... I am a slut , because .. I wear skirts . * I have never kissed a boy * and I'M a slut ? Zoey is an ignorant idiot . She does know that cannabis has medical properties and in this book was used as incense ? No , not everybody who uses cannabis is a pothead. Zoey is a hypocrite and a holier than thou Mary Sue. (I hope I never meet ANYONE from the book Marked). I also found her a little mean "step -loser" come on , give your step-father a chance . He is trying , and you being stubborn doesn't make anyone happy. I found the writing childish and I AM A CHILD. If a story is good , older people can like it too. I understand that this is aimed to the teenagers mind and perspective but I AM APPALLED AND DISGUSTED that this is what adults expect ME to read.

Oh and this is my opinion . If you like it , good for you .

Perfectly said

Vickie Considering her Step-father thinks she is an abomination, I am quite ok with her calling him step-loser.

Morgana_lefay Vickie wrote: "Considering her Step-father thinks she is an abomination, I am quite ok with her calling him step-loser."

the abomination thing was after she was marked, wasn't it? they didnt get along well before that if i remember correctly

Faith Williams In my mind it is not childish it was actually well written and i just finished Destined because of how much i liked it and i have to say its about kids who have been marked so key word kids. When you continue reading the story gets more and more complex.

Angela Every character act very immature. I can't take any of those book. And it will be made into a movie? American these day are mad and lost their mind. I bet that P.C and her daughter are immature so that why this series is one too. Poorly written...

Kenzie Faith wrote: "In my mind it is not childish it was actually well written and i just finished Destined because of how much i liked it and i have to say its about kids who have been marked so key word kids. When y..."

Yes I agree completely, its a teenagers book, so who ever thinks it was "immature" well it is a KIDS book,so maybe the people who think its immature shouldn't be reading teenage books by authors know for writing about teens and read something they find more mature.

Jasmine Kenzie wrote: "Faith wrote: "In my mind it is not childish it was actually well written and i just finished Destined because of how much i liked it and i have to say its about kids who have been marked so key wor..."

A lot of teens think its immature as well, it being a "teenage book" isn't an excuse for crappy writing.

Morgana_lefay Jasmine wrote: "Kenzie wrote: "Faith wrote: "In my mind it is not childish it was actually well written and i just finished Destined because of how much i liked it and i have to say its about kids who have been ma..."

I must agree, just on this page a 14 and 19 years old said they find it immature, so I presume they tend to read YA books

Angela Samantha wrote: "Angela wrote: "Every character act very immature. I can't take any of those book. And it will be made into a movie? American these day are mad and lost their mind. I bet that P.C and her daughter a..."

Don't forget that her daughter is writing the book with her too. So that could be where it came from...

kpopfan Lol this is sooo funny how they wrote nine books in the series so far and the most funniest part is that its being made into a movie.

message 97: by Dani (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dani Carter The writing style is childish, but it's consistant, it makes it a much easier read for me and I don't have to think an awful lot, I'm not giving up on the series, I'm just reading others before I persue with Tempted, after my disapointment with Hunted. I don't agree with the books being made into a film, unless they follow the Unfortunate event series by putting a few into one film, otherwise it'll get boring. Although I heard it was to become a film a few years back and thus I have heard nothing since, maybe the idea has been dropped?

Nuria It depends on how bored you are when reading the book. I was totaly bored and it entertained me. I even got to like it but I admid it's clildish but I think the book is for teens, so no big deal. Someone said here it's inapropiate for teen, well I don't think a single blow job and a joint is too much, just ridiculos.

Emilyx Very childish plot & characters,
the cursing; adult-level.

message 100: by Nicole (last edited Aug 05, 2012 07:54AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Nicole I tend to think they replace some of the curse words with things like "bullpoopie" because they are trying to save it in an attempt to keep it teenager rated because of all the sex that is in the freaking thing. I mean I think they kind of ran out of ideas of what to do with it so they just clapped their hands together and said to the charactes "Okay kids, have a kinky scene, that'll grab peoples attention back on again" Uh, P.C. Cast? That's not how its done.
I also think it's been drug out too long. I mean eight books seriously? Or is there nine now? I can't remember, but whatever, I'm wondering now if it's just so they can squeeze more money outta the darn thing in hopes that teenagers will want it because they believe all we care about is "sex" And I for one, do not, I want a good storyline. I'm tired of "ooo baby, ooo baby".
I'm not trying to rag on the authors because maybe they honestly love their characters and just cant let go and that I'm wrong about the whole money thing, but guys, you have to end the thing sometime.
Enough said.
