The way the characters were talking, and the things they talked about made them sound like children trying to act cool, or very, very immature teens. I didn't like this book at all.

I don't know about childish, the main character starts out as a young girl. I really didn't know what to expect when I picked up the book. I was hungry for more vampires after I read Twilight. But I never could get into it and I didn't finish reading the book. Twilight is universal because it's a love story in the vein of Romeo and Juliet. Marked? It's about becoming a vampire. That was my impression.
There are nine books out thus far. I cant take anymore of them. Sorry but I really dislike how they are written. I could only get through book one.
I think I read the first two or three before I couldn't take it anymore. It was definitely childish. I also thought it was way way to predictable. Every "twist" came after several super obvious spoon fed clues.
This book is very dump, stupid and idiotic.i hate it.it was childish, immature and illogical. The only reason as to why i read the book is because i wanted more vampire stories after reading twilight series.I don't know how i managed to finish it.

its about boyfriend drama and drama with the same person over and over and over and over . . . its like a regular high school day on steriods.
Gatha wrote: "This book is very dump, stupid and idiotic.i hate it.it was childish, immature and illogical. The only reason as to why i read the book is because i wanted more vampire stories after reading twilight ..."Uh, do you mean the book is very DUMB, not DUMP?
I agree with you completely. I really tried to like this book, but I just felt that they were trying far to hard.

I gave up on the series because it was taking too long, like they were stalling, trying to figure out how to get rid of Neferet. I only made it to Awakened, and even then I was hesitant to get it. Seemed like some of the books had no point to them, like they got so far only to end back at square one, which again leads me to my impression that the Casts are stalling. My point is also proven with the side stories of Dragon's Oath and Lenobia's Vow(which I have not read). They don't know where to go from here.
That's just my take on it.
Yeah the firstbook is childish and the series goes on FOREVER!!! but the romance starts getting somewhat better. but over all... i can put these books down and not pick thm back up for months
Yeah I do find the writing to be crude and the authors seem to be baby-talking to readers. However I do respect their effort in diversifying the main cast (significant amount of POCs including the protagonist, major gay characters etc.) of a mainstream YA series.
I couldn't stand how the characters spoke. Being a teenager myself, I know first hand that is not how we talk.
Mist .:.rockclimbingirl.:. wrote: "I couldn't stand how the characters spoke. Being a teenager myself, I know first hand that is not how we talk."They should have done better given that Kristin Cast was 19 when they wrote this.
hmmm i really did like the series but now that i think about it i thinked that they tried to hard to make the characters teens that they made them look like the stupid 12 year olds who act like they're 17
I read the first book only, and by the end I was ready to scratch my eyeballs out...This series just isn't my cup of COFFEE...
Ive read the entire series and actually really like it. I agree, the way they talk is very annoying and she recaps way too much in the following books but after i got past that the story was original and entertaining (book 3 being the dullest) it gets better but its almost as if the entire series could be considered great if she didnt write it with her daughter.
Gatha wrote: "it's an honor talking to a person who managed to read till 3rd part(or more)"lol... I may be a masochist :))
Mist .:.rockclimbingirl.:. wrote: "I couldn't stand how the characters spoke. Being a teenager myself, I know first hand that is not how we talk."It sounds like it's an adult who is trying to talk like a teenager and think she's really "cool."

true
It's a good storyline but it could have been written better. Book 1 kind of dragged a little. But it was good just not what I expected it to be.
I absolutely thought this book was written very childish. It was very hard to get through, that eventually i just put it down and started a different book. It could have gotten better throughout, but I honestly couldn't stick around and wait. I was surprised to find out how many people actually followed this series. Maybe I got a rough draft copy.
its very hard to relate to the main character.she has everything, she's got all the powers, all the guys are crazy about her.it just feels very irritating to read it
Goth: *~Starlet~* :Emo wrote: "With all the sex how is it childish...duh"I think they meant the style in which the books written
Still, I think it wasmeant to be like that beacause of all the stupid teenagers. thats how my sister acts soetimes (minus the sex)
When you say 'all the stupid teenagers', are you referring to all teenagers, or are you talking about a select amount?
Goth: *~Starlet~* :Emo wrote: " I think it wasmeant to be like that beacause of all the stupid teenagers"Teenagers can have a sense of responsibility too and be mature and not be stupid. :)
I didn't act like Zoey and her friends when I was in their age. A lot of teenagers I know didn't act like that either.

But seriously I think it's better written than the whole Twilight series was. I liked the Twilight movies a lot better than the books. But getting back to these books, I found them to be entertaining, while yet a bit "come on let's get going" on.
I think we should remember these books were written for teenagers. So calling them childish seems logical, they are not written for adults. I have read all up until the last one as I got sick of buying a new book and nothing happening, just catching up on what they are doing and then the book ends and you need to buy the next one, very unsatisfying reading. I am enjoying the Strange Angels series much more, while also about teenagers at least there is lots of action.
this book is written for teens of cause its gonna be kind of kidish,so teens enjoy it, im a teen im 15 years old and i do read older people books , and i agree this book is childish but it is ment to be so teens understand it and there is not many books like this so i did enjoy it
Lena wrote: "Meh. I definitely prefer how PC Cast writes her Divine series and Goddess Summoning series."Agree completely!
A girl form work raved on on about this series so I started reading and yes they are written for teenagers as was Twilight, Harry, and Hunger Games but give me any of these before Marked. The first book took me forever to work my way through and I have started the second one hoping it gets better. I find I really don't know the other characters and I just don't care. Am I missing something?
Sheila wrote: "A girl form work raved on on about this series so I started reading and yes they are written for teenagers as was Twilight, Harry, and Hunger Games but give me any of these before Marked. The firs..."*snort* no, I don't think you're missing something. I sort of felt the same. I used to call them Annoying twins, dictionary guy, queen bitch, the actor and so on, I think I only knew 3 names when I read book 1 :P
mmmm, I've read several books in this series- it got better in some instances, and overall wasn't terribly bad. There were some parts where I was... Really. You just had to go and do/say/react/ and so on (or the dialogue was just bad or plain wrong- 'blahblah, I vont to suck your blut' bad), but there were other parts where I also thought it was interesting or made it worth it to continue reading. For instance, the markings, the no-no areas (If you read the beginning, you know to what I am refering) and the wicked hair days! I stopped at Hunted and can't remember more than 3-5 events that occurred in all the books of this series that I read. That really can't be a good thing.
Lena wrote: "When you say 'all the stupid teenagers', are you referring to all teenagers, or are you talking about a select amount?"select amount
I've actually read the whole series and enjoyed it for the most part. I didn't find it childish for the simple fact that they're basically CHILDREN.. It's a great YA story, and suitable for the genre. I actually liked the characters and the bickering. I though it was pretty funny. It was drawn out in the long run, and kind of slow going. But again, its a book FOR teens ABOUT teens.
