Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2328 comments Hi all, Mike the Paladin, Dustin's friend (and Jackie's). I spend way too much time on Goodreads, most of it discussing and reviewing books...and discussing book reviews.

message 15: by J.S. (new)

J.S. Bailey (jsbailey) | 130 comments Hiiiiii!!!!!!! I'm J. S. Bailey, also known as Jenn, also known as that quiet girl who may or may not have a sinister glint in her eyes as she plots the demises of her imaginary friends. I lurk in the eastern suburbs of Cincinnati and put up with humanity for a living. I am addicted to burritos and books (though I don't eat the books; they'd probably give me a paper cut going down). I am an aspiring author with one published book under my belt and another in the works. I like to read creepy things. My favoritest of authors are Ted Dekker, Dean Koontz, and Stephen King. My responses to discussion questions sometimes end up being as long as my novels. I also greatly enjoy talking about myself. [cough cough] And my birthday is tomorrow. (Gonna sing?)

If you hang out on Facebook as much as you do on Goodreads, feel free to give my page a hearty "like." I love to meet new oddballs on there and converse with them about our mutual love of the written word. www.facebook.com/jsbaileywrites

Bailey out.

Pennsylvania and Hell are similar? I've never seen Pennsylvania before. what are you doing "down and out" there? Hopefully you are just visiting or is that where you live? Best wishes!

message 24: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 402 comments Yep, definitely stuck here. I live with my parents. :,(
I live in southern Blair county, and the only thing its got going for it right now in my opinion is the mountains(or what we call mountains) are just starting to turn green. Compared to the Rockies, our mountains are probably nothing more than mosquito bites to you Dustin. As I said, the home situation isn't the best, and I have a crap job that I absolutely hate. The last couple of weeks have really been getting me down and its been difficult trying to get back 'up'. Just got that frustrated, helpless feeling that does nothing but drag you down thing going on right now. Reading and sleeping are the only things I look forward to, and going to the gym.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2328 comments Actually Hell is in Michigan (I camped out there for two weeks once). Although, to be fair I don't think it's the same Hell mentioned in the Bible. For one thing Michigan wasn't well known thousands of years ago...and I didn't see any dead or undead people.

Becca wrote: "Compared to the Rockies, our mountains are probably nothing more than mosquito bites to you Dustin."

Funny comparison. There are plenty of mosquitos around here too :-) I'm thinking of going for a hike in the mountains today as it's my day off and I shouldn't spend all day online.

Do you have plans to get out of there if you don't like it so much? I know environment really affects a person's life. I've lived in sad and dark places before. I know it's hard to break free when there are family or money issues. I think I'm staying put where I am now in my Boulder Bubble - it's very peaceful, calm and surrounded by nature.

message 28: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 402 comments Sounds nice.
I have all sorts of ideas on how to get out of here, but I'm just too chicken sh*t to do anything about it. Some days I get so pissed off and frustrated, I just want to pack the car, grab the cats and go. Just drive until I feel like stopping, wherever that may be. I think a lot of my current problems come from living with my parents, after living on my own for 5 years. I think I would do a lot better if I were to find my own place, except I'm not sure if I can afford it. Some times I feel like I'm suffocating.

I've tried to find outlets, but other than the gym there isn't much of anything around here. Nothing that interests me anyway. For instance, I have a temper, and so I end up punching things. I was a little inspired by a book to find a boxing gym, and turn my bad habit into something productive. Well, there aren't any boxing gyms near here. Same goes for pistol ranges that rent guns. It just feels like I live in a tiny box.

message 29: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 402 comments And get your butt moving Dustin! Go for that hike today, cause the weather will probably suck tomorrow lol.

Becca, you make me laugh...grabbing the cats :-) but also I can relate to how you feel - it would take too long to describe.... but for a long time I lived in this small town where half the town was related to me and there was this family pressure not to move away and I couldn't really be myself. This Rascal Flats song expresses how I felt:
http://youtu.be/fz1N8W8phec

Now, thank you for the encouragement to get out of the house and head up the street to the mountain (seriously, it's just right up the street :-). I will go take a hike. I'm logging off right now.

I haven't gotten into owling - it's not my thing. Do you know about owling? It's where people perch on things like an owl. I guess it was a phase which followed planking.
