I'm currently reading Soulless and it has touches of steampunk. I also have the Clockwork Century series on my TBR.

and the choice has nothing to do whith the cover....
I have not read this myself, but Felicia gave The Greyfriar four stars. (It recently came up on Whedonesque in an interview with James Marsters -- he reads the audiobooks.)
I love the Parasol Protectorate series! Veronica mentioned it several times - it's true that despite the sexy scenes the novels can stand on their own.
Parasol Protectorate and Steampunk Chronicles - definitely. Also, "Dearly, Departed" is a great one (its sequel should be out later this year or early next year) - it's in the future but it's got zombies and steampunk AND Victoriana!

[boo..."YES both of these series are fan-fucking-tastic and are must reads!
Cherie Priest wrote The Clockwork Century series - no real sexy-times but pretty great Steampunk.A lot of current Steampunk is in YA.
the Parasol Protectorate by Gail Carrigeris awesome. It doesn't have tons of sexy time, but there is definite romance there. Non-sexy, but still totally awesome steampunk are Newbury & Hobbes the books by George Mann
Another vote for Vampire Empire books
is book one. Definite Steampunk elements in all Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld.Meljean's Iron Seas series is definitely one of the most fun tho.
I really enjoyed Phoenix Rising: A Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences novel by Pip Ballantine & Tee Morris!

Sadly all it doesn't look like I can read the iron duke with you. My local library doesn't have any copies, both waterstones and WH smiths failed to have copies or even be able to order them. And amazon will take way too long :( a bit upset, but enjoy the read guys.

I picked up a copy from Kobo and am reading it on my laptop :)
Its a YA book and has no romance but is quite entertaining. Also its illustrated with some really nice art. Always a bonus for steampunk stuff IMO.

Actually, that trilogy has a very sweet romance! I adored it.

Good to know! I have only read the first one and its rather romance free. Set up book clearly. Will have to read more. Thanks!
I'd recommend Cold Magic by Kate Elliott. It's steampunk but can also be classified as "icepunk". Great all around fantasy book! My review of it is here.
Felicia wrote: "...I would vote for Native Star by MK Hobson as another great one. "Recommended this series to the wife a while back. Maybe she will actually listen to you Felicia...
So far I'm very impressed, I love the style of steampunk and this book is so much better than the previous one, I'm thrilled. Thanks again to the VF Ladies for bringing all of this into our lives ... nice to have an outlet for this!
Glad that April's theme is steam punk. I have only recently discovered the genre and I love it. I absolutely love Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series. My local library finally got the final book in the series (upon my request).
Looking forward to the Iron Duke. Appreciate all of the other reccs....which have been added to my "to read" list.
The Emperor's Edge One I discovered as a freebie on Amazon. I believe there are 3 books in the series.
Clockwork Heart This is a really good read. No sexy time but there is a light romance subplot.I also love Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series. I read the Iron Duke a while ago and remember not being as impressed with it.
Glass Books of the Dream Eaters was the first steampunk I read and I definitely recommend it to fans of the genre. Not a romance really, but it does have a strong female lead who evolves as the story moves forward.

I got it second hand and it wasn't expensive though.
Melissa wrote: "Katie MacAlister's 'Steamed' is a really fun steampunk romance too.Steamed"Found this book because I liked MacAlister's other serieses (? spelling) and just picked it up one day in the library. Then promptly sat down and read it cover to cover. As to this month's theme of steampunk, I haven't read a ton of it but what I have read I have enjoyed. I wish that I could find more good steampunk at my local library but it all seems to be hidden away on back shelves. I will have to stick with recommendations I find elsewhere! Anyway, thanks to all you guys I have found a few more books to add to my Need to Read pile!

I can request books doing that online from my library. Basically, I put in a request with all the information and they try to loan it from other libraries in the state. I live in a smaller, more historic county so the library system lacks these type of books unlike my neighboring county. The only catch is if the book is under 9 months old and popular then the libraries don't lend it out until it is past it's grace period. I tried getting the next book after Iron Duke but I can't for a while. The only bad thing it usually takes 1-3 weeks for the book to get in.
I just got Boneshaker by cherie priest and Steampunk (short stories) edited by vandermeer. I have been wanting to read some Steampunk novels but didn't get to look into it. I always settled for the geekiness of our monthly Steampunk meetings that we have in town. It definately helps me get more into the vibe than I have before and think about things I haven't thought of. It help me flesh out my character more.
Though all I have seen is European steampunk books. Does anyone know of any that are placed in the states that are good?
