I would vote for Native..."
and the choice has nothing to do whith the cover....

YES both of these series are fan-fucking-tastic and are must reads!

A lot of current Steampunk is in YA.

Meljean's Iron Seas series is definitely one of the most fun tho.

I loved Finley Jane too.. haven't been able to move onto the rest of the series yet. Got it free on my Kobo account!

Could you get it as an ebook? I picked up a copy from Kobo and am reading it on my laptop :)

Its a YA book and has no romance but is quite entertaining. Also its illustrated with some really nice art. Always a bonus for steampunk stuff IMO.

Actually, that trilogy has a very sweet romance! I adored it.

Good to know! I have only read the first one and its rather romance free. Set up book clearly. Will have to read more. Thanks!

Recommended this series to the wife a while back. Maybe she will actually listen to you Felicia...

Thanks again to the VF Ladies for bringing all of this into our lives ... nice to have an outlet for this!

I absolutely love Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series. My local library finally got the final book in the series (upon my request).
Looking forward to the Iron Duke. Appreciate all of the other reccs....which have been added to my "to read" list.

I also love Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series. I read the Iron Duke a while ago and remember not being as impressed with it.

I got a copy from Amazon but it took an age to get here. I got it second hand and it wasn't expensive though.

Found this book because I liked MacAlister's other serieses (? spelling) and just picked it up one day in the library. Then promptly sat down and read it cover to cover. As to this month's theme of steampunk, I haven't read a ton of it but what I have read I have enjoyed. I wish that I could find more good steampunk at my local library but it all seems to be hidden away on back shelves. I will have to stick with recommendations I find elsewhere! Anyway, thanks to all you guys I have found a few more books to add to my Need to Read pile!

Ask the library about intralibrary loans. I can request books doing that online from my library. Basically, I put in a request with all the information and they try to loan it from other libraries in the state. I live in a smaller, more historic county so the library system lacks these type of books unlike my neighboring county. The only catch is if the book is under 9 months old and popular then the libraries don't lend it out until it is past it's grace period. I tried getting the next book after Iron Duke but I can't for a while. The only bad thing it usually takes 1-3 weeks for the book to get in.

I have been wanting to read some Steampunk novels but didn't get to look into it. I always settled for the geekiness of our monthly Steampunk meetings that we have in town. It definately helps me get more into the vibe than I have before and think about things I haven't thought of. It help me flesh out my character more.
Though all I have seen is European steampunk books. Does anyone know of any that are placed in the states that are good?
