Giulinhnh Barihgrv The giving tree is about a little boy who loves a tree and visits it every day. He makes a crown out of the trees leaves and plays around it all day. He swings in the branches and eats the apples from the tree. When he gets tired he also rests in her shade. But things change as the little boy grows older, he starts visiting the tree less and less and when he visits the tree, it is only to complain or ask for something he wants. He takes all her apples and sells them and finally when the tree has nothing left to offer but her stump she is sorry. It all comes down to only having love for the boy to offer and nothing else.

Read and noted. Thanks, lg

Anna Thanks for the great summery!! I have to say that this book made me all fuzzy inside when I was younger because the tree was so unselfish and kind to the boy but the boy when he became older and older, he became more and more selfish and kept on taking from the poor tree.

Jessica I am 25 & a teacher, and this is one of my favorite books to read. I still get teary every single time I get to, "And the tree was happy... but not really."

What a beautiful story about the joy of selfless giving, and how there is always some way we can help each other out.

(And I wouldn't call the boy selfish so much as thoughtless personally... I don't think he means to hurt the tree; I think like a parent, she has always been there for him, and he goes to her for the things he needs just as a child goes to their parents for the things they need.)

this is one of my favorite childhood books. i still have it and like to read it once in a while. :D

JazzyCat I loved this book when I was a little girl, and today I still love it. It's about how when a person loves someone, they'll do anything for them, because it makes them happy to see that person happy. I'm going through that right now. <3

Robin This is the first book I ever read. It is STILL one of my favourites, and I read it to my kids. EXCELLENT. Honestly, you just can't go wrong with Shel Silverstein! But, this book makes me cry EVERY time I read, even to this day. :)
