Sarah Kudlack | 5 comments Looking for a book where a man & his two children live out west(Montana, Wyoming, somewhere) & he sends away for a mail-order bride. They correspond & he's expecting a hard-working woman, etc. On the trip out west she dies & a young pampered woman takes her place. There is a chemistry btwn this new woman & the man but despite his feelings he needs a hard-working wife. So he sends her home, but she doesn't go she stays in town & starts a hat and/or dress shop.... Cute story - tried to recommend it to someone & must've donated it & can't remember the title to save me! THANKS!

I haven't read it but it's sounds kind of close.

Thanks Valerie! That's not the original one I was looking for - but I actually came across this in my hunt & read it & liked it. It's pretty similar but missing that mail-order bride aspect! Thanks!!!

Sarah Kudlack | 5 comments Ruby - holy smokes - that sounds SUPER similar. But it still isn't "the one". The only real difference is in the book I'm looking for the woman has no family left - and she starts a hat/dress shop. Thanks!!!

Sarah, one more try. Could you be talking about two books by Linda Howard. They have been re-released in so many different ways. In the second--sort of short story, I'm almost a 100% sure she starts or works in some sort of shop. She stays in town and will not leave. In this one, she can't find work so she takes in work. If this isn't the one, maybe we should write one. LOL!!

Montana Bride by Joan Johnston?
Mail Order Substitute by Audrey Yates?

Cassie, around what year did you read this book?
Is the man a rancher/farmer/doctor/etc.?
Why was the first woman willing to head out west?

No response from OP since 2014, moving to Abandoned.

Although Kris, if you feel particularly strongly about either of your suggestions @10 we can move it to Solved perhaps.
