He may be incapable of love, but he did whatever he could do, in his messed up mind, to help Harry. That, I think, is more admirable than not.

And Snape putting his life at risk for Lily doesn't count, because it is entirely Snape's fault that she's dead in the first place.
At least, by the end, Snape gets the justice he deserves.

(it makes me want to punch the TV screen, scream as loud as I can until I can scream no more while pulling my hair out of my head, question our own humanity, and other terrible, terrible things that are not polite to post on a discussion.)
(BTW, I am not a violent person. I swear.)

Me too lol every time my dentist turns around I'll make faces as him and signal..."
Lol ikr! I'm scared of that zzzzzz-ey tool! :)

And snakes!

I feel like that is a misinterpretation. He didn't give up Lily because he would rather work for Voldemort. He gave in to high school peer pressure and called her a mudblood because that is what his friends in Slytherin were doing. After that, he learned the hard way and realized how much he really loved her and how he made a mistake he couldn't take back. He doesn't believe James worthy of Lily, thinking he can only make her happy. He never really wanted James dead, he just didn't cry over his death. It was Lily's he really felt like he could have prevented, and because he didn't he saved her son, despite the constant reminder Harry was to Snape of what he lost and who took Lily away from him. He does everything to save her son, such as keeping Quirrell away from him and keeping him from who he thought was a raving murderer. Although these things weren't obvious at the time, it was all revealed in "The Prince's Tale", as you should have seen when you read it. He gave up his life for Harry, just as Lily did. Although I feel like he could have handled things a little better, the layers of his character made him one of my favorites. Sometimes I feel like his story is overrated, but then again this series is about the sacrifice of love and what he did is the perfect example of that. I feel like his capabilities of love far surpass most. Read a little more carefully before you accuse Snape of something so completely opposite of what is true.

Yes, Snape got what he deserved for what he did, but he realized what he did in the end and knew that because she would never forgive him, he would do everything he could to redeem himself. He only joined Voldemort because his friends did too and he didn't know how to say no to them since they were his only friends. He had no family to turn to. Harry was put in a much better situation because he was with friends who knew the difference between good and evil. This is a typical high school situation that changed his entire life. He helped by doing what Dumbledore told him would be best for Harry. You talk about him like there is nothing good about Snape when you are seeing it in a much more cynical light. It seems like you missed very important information from this book.

Very true.. Same feeling!

I am overwhelmed! That's a very beautiful portrayal of the true person that Snape was!! One of the greatest persons in Harry's life..

At first we didn't like each other, but then we saw each other's value. He was a sort of inspiration to me.

I sort of agree
Harry is to Snape as I am to docters and their offices. Oh, and Hermione Granger.
