Ascel Kadhem as I am to onions! I hate onions. (I love Snape, btw xD)

Ascel Kadhem YEAH!! SNAPE IS THE MAN ♥♥

Meeeriams Fleep Snape is one fantastically subtly brilliantly surprisingly absolutely HUGWORTHY character. I have a love-hate relationship with Snape D=

Samuel Proulx I don't see that Snape has any redeeming qualities, at all. He was in love with Lily, but so attached to his petty need for power that he eventually called her a mudblood and joined Voldemort. After he gave Voldemort the prophecy that caused Voldemort to decide to kill the Potters, he begged Voldemort to let him have Lily. This is not any kind of love; if he really loved her, he'd want her to be happy with James. Instead, he wants James dead, and Lily awarded to him by Voldemort as a prize. When that doesn't happen, he becomes so bitter, that he takes it out on Harry. Yet more proof that he doesn't love Lily, as the way he behaved towards her son is not what she would have wanted. He obviously knows what Dumbledore has planned for Harry, but he never does anything to try and save the son of the woman he supposedly loved from that fate, or even make his burden any easier. Yes, Snape is a complicated and interesting character. But I can't see that he's worthy of hugs of any kind. The only thing I feel him and those like him are worthy of is my utter contempt. Snape is a double agent, a quisling, and utterly incapable of love.

Emma I completely agree with you on that. I know everyone loves Snape, but I've never been able to understand why. I think it's ridiculous to love him.

Meeeriams Fleep Well to be fair, I wouldn't really hug him if I came face to face with him; all that greasy hair, y'see. But I do think he deserves more credit than that! He absolutely loathed James, and when he saw lots of James's aspects in Harry, it just reminded him of the old days. He followed the dark side, yes, but don't you think anybody would, if they'd been through half what he went through, at the hands of his family? And then to be left completely by Lily, the only person he loved and trusted and perhaps one of the very few who was kind to him?
He may be incapable of love, but he did whatever he could do, in his messed up mind, to help Harry. That, I think, is more admirable than not.

Samuel Proulx Lily left him because of what *he* did. The entire thing was completely his fault, start to finish. And a bad family is no excuse to join Voldemort. Harry had a home life that was, in some ways, a lot worse; he never became a bitter and evil follower of the dark arts. What little Snape did for Harry, he did because he had little or no choice in the matter. And verbal abuse and mental torture do not qualify as helping. Anything good Snape ever did was made up for ten thousand fold by his evil.

And Snape putting his life at risk for Lily doesn't count, because it is entirely Snape's fault that she's dead in the first place.

At least, by the end, Snape gets the justice he deserves.

Sara Harry is to Snape as I am to my roommate. She seems to hate me for no reason; she judged me before she even ever actually met me and got to know me, and we just cant seem to get along.

Anna Harry is to Snape as I am to the Bachelor.

(it makes me want to punch the TV screen, scream as loud as I can until I can scream no more while pulling my hair out of my head, question our own humanity, and other terrible, terrible things that are not polite to post on a discussion.)

(BTW, I am not a violent person. I swear.)

Ciara In the beginning, when Harry hates Snape...the relationship would be like the relationship between me and cheese! I hate cheese. Except a small amount on pizza...

And snakes!

Hannah Christmas Samuel wrote: "I don't see that Snape has any redeeming qualities, at all. He was in love with Lily, but so attached to his petty need for power that he eventually called her a mudblood and joined Voldemort. Af..."

I feel like that is a misinterpretation. He didn't give up Lily because he would rather work for Voldemort. He gave in to high school peer pressure and called her a mudblood because that is what his friends in Slytherin were doing. After that, he learned the hard way and realized how much he really loved her and how he made a mistake he couldn't take back. He doesn't believe James worthy of Lily, thinking he can only make her happy. He never really wanted James dead, he just didn't cry over his death. It was Lily's he really felt like he could have prevented, and because he didn't he saved her son, despite the constant reminder Harry was to Snape of what he lost and who took Lily away from him. He does everything to save her son, such as keeping Quirrell away from him and keeping him from who he thought was a raving murderer. Although these things weren't obvious at the time, it was all revealed in "The Prince's Tale", as you should have seen when you read it. He gave up his life for Harry, just as Lily did. Although I feel like he could have handled things a little better, the layers of his character made him one of my favorites. Sometimes I feel like his story is overrated, but then again this series is about the sacrifice of love and what he did is the perfect example of that. I feel like his capabilities of love far surpass most. Read a little more carefully before you accuse Snape of something so completely opposite of what is true.

Hannah Christmas Samuel wrote: "Lily left him because of what *he* did. The entire thing was completely his fault, start to finish. And a bad family is no excuse to join Voldemort. Harry had a home life that was, in some ways, ..."

Yes, Snape got what he deserved for what he did, but he realized what he did in the end and knew that because she would never forgive him, he would do everything he could to redeem himself. He only joined Voldemort because his friends did too and he didn't know how to say no to them since they were his only friends. He had no family to turn to. Harry was put in a much better situation because he was with friends who knew the difference between good and evil. This is a typical high school situation that changed his entire life. He helped by doing what Dumbledore told him would be best for Harry. You talk about him like there is nothing good about Snape when you are seeing it in a much more cynical light. It seems like you missed very important information from this book.

I am overwhelmed! That's a very beautiful portrayal of the true person that Snape was!! One of the greatest persons in Harry's life..

Susana me to my old portuguese teacher.
At first we didn't like each other, but then we saw each other's value. He was a sort of inspiration to me.
