Silver Buddy reads are small group discussion which are led by fellow members. Anyone can start a buddy read. Buddy reads can be for any form of literature as long as it still fits in with this groups requirements.

I am interested if you aren't already too far along. I read a lot of Zola for a course in college but I don't think I ever read this one.

You are most welcome to join.
I am in over 100 pages in less than a day.
It is that good. In fact of the two others Zola novels I know I have read this one is so far the best.

OTOH you can have this week to catch up. I am gong to be doing somethings that will keep me away.

Care to pick up a week from today? Read what you can and we can match up .
Chapt 1 and 2 build wonderfully and just flowed. Chapt 4 is as exciting as shopping can be.
So come on it the Zola is fine.

I read the first 2 chapters quickly. I keep thinking of the PBS series Mr. Selfridge about the London dept store. This seems to be quite a bit earlier in time. Also it reminds me of the current issue of small stores vs big box stores and later everyone vs online/Amazon.

You're right that it's an easy read so far. I liked how the story starts right in and the back story is filled in along the way.
