Main character is asked by mentor and provost of his alma mater to return to the college to help financial and other issues. He gets into the investigation of a 20+ year old murder that happened during his senior year. His then best friend was convicted by circumstantial evidence and has been in jail for the murder of a beautiful african american student, found dead near the school's old bell tower. Main character gets involved with the provost's daughter, and together, they find the real killer, as well as uncover the truth behind the provost's wife.
