Stephen Did anyone else feel that the hole in the driveway is a too-obvious metaphor for the hole in someone's life?

When I first read it I expected that it was gonna bother me but for some reason it just worked.

Particularly Wes pulling Macy out of it. Yes it seems a bit heavy handed as far as foreshadowing goes, but it was a nice touch.

Hannah Wow. I never even thought that. :) But that's very interesting, and it works. It really goes with the story. I wonder what other foreshadows I missed... o_O

Erin Newsome do you guys have any more forshandowing examples?

Sonia I thought it meant that life isnt perfect and u have to find a way to make it work!! When Delia said that the hole was a reminder that life isnt perfect and that u have to find a way to work threw problems that will happen!! Like when things were going to well then she had that baby!! That's what I thought it meant!! :)

Sorrel Yeah like Sonia I thought it meant that no thing or person is perfect but if you look around the flaws and don't get sucked into the imperfections then you realise that it's good in it's own way and things can still work. I understand that symbolism too though

Sandra =) In your way, you'll encounter a "hole". And as you struggle, you'll happen to have someone, who will not just help you get unstuck from the hole, but will be a special part in your life, and who will be there for you, with hole or none. :))

Kate She did the same thing in Dreamland. The neighbor talks about how he doesn't need to take down the clothes line because he keeps crashing into it with his bike, he needs to learn to respect it.

And in Keeping the Moon, the aunt is the same way with all her broken furniture.

A bit repetitive, in my opinion.
