Need a book that will make me laugh out loud

What is the funniest book you've ever read? Or what is a funny book you're looking forward to reading?

I am looking for a good book that is about something important, expresses the wide gamut of what it means to be a human, and most importantly will make me laugh. I have been wanting to read Ernest Hemingway (I've never read any of his stuff) and I want to laugh out loud. A setting in New York City or Paris would be ideal but please throw all suggestions at me!
Only thing: No British humor!! I think I just don't get it...

Maybe Tender Buttons?

Yeah, Christopher Moore doesn't do it for me. But most good funny fiction that I can think of is British.
I'm not sure how Hemingway fits in with the funny.

Carl Hiassen, Elmore Leonard, Christopher Buckley... they're all hilarious.

I love David Sedaris, too... even if he does make Sally want to pluck her eyelashes out.

Confederacy of Dunces is one of my top three favorite books of all time.

The only authors that have honestly made me laugh out loud might be Augusten Burroughs and that guy who wrote Sex Lives of Cannibals. Oh and Sean Condon.

Augusten Burroughs is great, but I generally laugh while cringing when reading him. All my other favorite funny books are British, though. So, not much help from me.

Thanks so much everyone for your fabulous suggestions! I've added a few things on my to-read list and am looking forward to them! As far as Hemingway goes...I think A Moveable Feast will be delightfully entertaining and I think that is what I will read first once I'm done with my current book.
Keep the suggestions flowing as you feel compelled!
Satire might also be in order. I don't necessarily want to be laughing the whole way through, but to be struck by funny moments/characters.

Nothing funny about Steinbeck for me but I love Twain's satire, especially what was published after his death: Letters from the Earth: Uncensored Writings
