Editors
Hi! I don't know if this is the right place to post, will delete if not, but I have literary and educational editing experience and looking to get into editing as a profession. If any editors need help, my website is here: http://www.sammi-campbell.com
Deciding to be an editor is like deciding to be a ballerina. It takes time, training, practice and talent. I've currently got six of my clients selling at the top of their category on amazon. I don't edit for free, but I do edit for my love of good books. I offer developmental, line, copy edit and even proofreading as well as coaching services. As an author myself, I understand writing from both sides of the desk and will do whatever I can to see you happily published. So don't trust your work to an amateur. Come by and see me at http://booksneditsVGP.com
I'm a highly skilled editor, proofreader and writer with more than ten years of professional experience and a passion for the written word.Throughout my career, I have delivered high-quality content on a variety of subjects. In my most recent role at The Vanguard Group, where I worked for 12 years, I partnered with business leaders, Human Resources business partners and writers to edit and proofread a high volume of print and online communications disseminated from Human Resources to 14,000 crew members around the world, working on multiple assignments a day while maintaining high quality. I previously edited and proofread an extensive array of internal training materials, requiring strong working relationships with instructional designers, graphic designers and writers across the organization. I also collaborated with RFP writers to develop and proofread content. Currently I run my own freelance business, Precision Editing Services, and am interested in taking on additional projects and working with self-published freelance writers and smaller companies. Clients include Brain Child magazine, the Indigenous Nutritionist, and Harvard Business Review Press.
Why hire me when there's so many other great freelance editors? Because the more I edit, the more I want to edit. When someone has a genuine enthusiasm and love for what he or she does, that’s someone you want working for you, someone you know will deliver superb results. I love what I do and bring genuine passion and enthusiasm for minute editorial details. Being a champion for clear and concise copy, consistent parallel structure, and precise punctuation is in my DNA. (Two of my grandparents were English professors!)
For more information about me, my experience and my business, please visit my website: www.precisionediting.net, or feel free to reach out to me via Goodreads, Facebook, etc.

I just finished a ms and have an immediate slot available for another.8 years as the lead copy editor for a publisher. Great rates. Here's what I can do for you:

I wanted to add my editor, Lindsey Nelson of Exact Edits to this list. I've been working with Lindsey for almost two decades now, and she's still the #1 person I contact first when embarking on a new project. (She also just finished a memoir I wrote.) Lindsey is remarkably affordable, and always gets the job done in time. On top of that she has a sense of humor, which is nice with the nitty-grittty day-to-day details of editing. I'll be using Lindsey for two more decades I'm sure. Here's a link to her site: http://www.exactedits.com/And this book, American Climber is the project she just finished for me: American Climber
I've been editing, proofreading, and/or writing for more than 20 years, and I'll work with you to make your text concise, correct, and effective. My website I Can Edit That has all my details and credentials, but here is a summary:
• I am a Professional Member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders
• I've edited thousands of pieces of text of almost every kind
• I’ve self-published two books (here’s my author website), so I know the challenges involved in producing a polished text
• I offer free sample edits and proofreads
I may not have edited as many books as some other editors, but I have helped every kind of writer. Also, unlike a lot of editors I’ve also written professionally for thousands of readers. I know how hard it can be to send copy to an editor, wondering how and why they might change something you’ve slaved over. I’ve been where you are, and I want to help.
Your time is vital to you, and so is your budget. I'll ensure that you waste neither of them.
I was thrilled to discover Lindsey Nelson from exactedits.com. She has superior copyediting skills. I LOVE working with her and the best compliment I can give is that I will continue to work with her on all my books. She is part of my team now. She's easy and pleasant to work with, professional, and has a keen eye for content, grammar, continuity, and phrasing. My books and writing, in general, are better for it. I am eternally grateful that I found her. I was nervous about hiring an editor but I did my research and I'm so glad I have such an awesome one now :)
Shadowcat Editing provides copy editing and proofreading services to indie novelists and small business clients at affordable rates. I work in all genres but particularly enjoy YA, Urban Fantasy, Cozy Mysteries, and Contemporary Romance - plus non-academic non-fiction in the areas of self-help, small business and finance. My editing style is detailed, collaborative and adaptable to the author's voice, style, and goals for the book. Having your work edited should be a positive experience, not a scary one!
Please visit my website www.shadowcatediting.com for more information about me and how I work, as well as testimonials from happy authors I've worked with - or just send me an email at Robin@shadowcatediting.com and let's talk!
Summer Editing Sale - I will edit your manuscript, up to 50k words for $50. Romance is my specialty. http://www.julieannlevin.com/romance-...

I'm currently seeking to help both indie and established authors improve their manuscripts' world building, characterization, descriptions, plot, pacing, structure, and other "big picture" elements. Many people tend to think of grammar when they hear the term "editor," but if your characters aren't memorable or your story's world isn't believable, readers may end up putting your book down regardless of how polished your grammar is. I've helped authors discover their story's full potential, and I would love to help you too! (Side note: The genres I work with are horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and mystery. Pricing for my services are cheaper than many content editors in order to offer affordable editing for authors who have less than $1,500 to spend.)

Thanks! You too! I'm currently having an issue finding clients. Too many writers seem to think great grammar = a great story when that's not the case. It's grammar AND a solid plot line with believable worlds/characters. Do you know of anyone currently looking for a developmental editor for fiction?

Hey Felix,
Thanks for checking out my site! I try to keep the prices lower than many of the developmental services out there. The free quote also comes with the first 20 pages edited, so you'll have an insight of my editing style.
Thanks again!

By the time I see a ms, it should already be story edited. I have a few clients who put out stories that don't need a story editor, but they've been at it for quite a while. I occasionally work with another story editor (she did some good work for us when I was working for AKW Books), but I'm open to working with others if your clients need a copy editor. And if I need a story editor NOW and my associate is busy, it's nice to have a backup.
I hope you can Felix can collaborate to produce a great story.

Thanks for the interest.
Well, one of my regular authors decided to do another pass on her manuscript, so I'm available this month for anyone that needs some copy editing done.https://alkalarediting.wordpress.com/
If you're an author in need of a developmental edit for your manuscript, I'd love to help. Not only have I written and published my own books, but I also hold a Ph.D. in English Studies and have over twenty years’ experience in higher education as a teacher and advisor. I am ready to use my experience to help you with your writing and editing needs. http://www.theamymartin.com/writing-e...
Examples of issues I might address in a developmental edit/manuscript critique:
Plot holes or scenes that don’t make sense
Realistic or believable characters and/or situations
Pacing
Setting
Dialogue
Repeated errors in grammar/spelling/punctuation/usage (While proofreading is another type of editing and not part of manuscript critique, we can discuss proofreading your manuscript for a separate fee.)
I will offer feedback in these areas and suggestions on how to improve in a comprehensive report. I’ll also let you know what you’re doing well in your writing so you can keep on doing it!
Genres:
I’m well-read in most genres, but I prefer:
Young Adult (I’m a YA writer myself)
Romance
New Adult
Non-fiction
I also offer the following additional services:
book blurbs (both writing of original blurbs and editing of existing ones)
resume/cover letter assistance
assistance with college application essays and graduate/professional school statements of purpose
I'd love to help you with your writing and editing needs. Please visit my website for more information about my experience and rates, or you can direct message me here on Goodreads.

Welcome to Fair Crack of the Whip Proofreading and Editing! Bit of a mouth full, right? But it translates to ‘Give a fair chance or opportunity to someone.’ And that’s exactly what I do! My name is Katie-bree and I offer a range of editing and proofreading services on most genres, charging competitive rates perfect for someone starting out, self-publishing, or an Indie Author.
I prefer to work on MS Word with Track Changes but can use other methods if required. My services include Developmental Editing, Copy Editing, Proofreading and Critique Services. A brief description of each is included below for reference. If you require more than one of these options then I will happily offer a package price. I generally prefer to provide a free sample of about 10 pages from the center of your manuscript for you to review my work and decide whether I am the editor for you.
I have already worked with many authors, and can provide my resume and references upon request. If you would like to know more or would like a quote please contact me on dontgrumblegiveawhistle@gmail.com
*Critique Evaluations - this is where I read through your story highlighting any potential problem areas and assessing the overall readability. It is similar to a beta-read only more in depth. Usually I review chapter-by-chapter with an overall analysis at the end but can modify to suit.
*Developmental Editing – This is performed while your work is still young. Here, I will collaborate with you to ensure your manuscript develops with the intentions, voice and style that you seek to obtain. I make suggestions on readability, character development, content, use of dialogue and sensory description, narrative voice, pacing, and language. I will work with you answering any queries and brainstorming whenever you require it. I do not correct grammar or spelling at this stage as it is too early in the process to do so correctly.
*Structural Editing/Copy Editing – A Structural Edit is similar to a Developmental Edit only it is performed when you have a manuscript already near completion. I focus on refining your writing, re-ordering and restructuring in order to tighten the story and improve readability, clarity and accuracy. I alert you to any inconsistencies regarding plot, character development and speech. I assist you with your language usage and in creating believable dialogue and plotline. Copy Editing is basically line editing and comes after a Structural Edit. It corrects grammar, punctuation, spelling, word usage, etc. I will suggest alternative words or sentences if I believe they will work towards your purposes better. I can do both of the above edits together, if you are happy with this arrangement and time permits, as the two often go hand in hand and, quite frankly, I can’t ignore a spelling mistake if I see one. However, if you prefer, I can also do one or the other separately. Other people may do this differently.
*Proofreading – I do offer proofreading services as well which is basically a final run through of your manuscript at its completion, to ensure there are no obvious errors and that the mark ups from editing have been applied. I do not like to proofread something that I have just edited, however, as I am usually too close to the work to perform it correctly unless there has been a suitable timeframe included.
Please note that these methods and interpretations are mine alone and some people’s may vary. Hopefully, however, they give you an idea so that you can plan what you would like to do with your story in its next exciting step on the road to publication!!
Thanks for the info. I'm working on my revisions on my MS, but I will contact you very soon. My first book was self published last August and I have so many readers asking for the second in the Trilogy. I'm trying to work as quickly as I can without rushing the work.
No problems Effie. Slow and steady wins the race :) May I ask what your book is called? I'll check it out :)

“Many people do their job well, but finding a person who is truly exceptional at their profession is, in my opinion, rare. Lindsey is unquestionably in the latter category. She did a masterful job editing my manuscript. From comma splices and dangling participles to verb tense, punctuation, and spelling, she didn’t miss a thing. Moreover, she fact-checked, recognized and corrected awkward phrases, and formatted the entire manuscript, explaining each and every change along the way.
She is friendly, patient, and a great communicator. In so many ways she really went above and beyond for me and I am extremely grateful for all the hard work she put in on my book. Thanks, Lindsey, for making this such a great experience for me!”

Greetings Authors and writers-I am a trained copyeditor, cookbook and food writing editor, and, when possible, memoir editor. I am very interested in editing for and helping independent authors and writers, those who will be self-publishing their books.
What is the best way to connect with very motivated and independent writers?

Polly,
I would join some of the self-publishing groups on Goodreads or some of the self-publishing website forums. I think people are always searching for editors, and it would probably be the most beneficial to connect there. Hope this helps and good luck!
