HP plot flaw?

i don't think anything JKR wrote was a flaw. I'm sure she had dozens of proof readers....But really, if they used time turners to avoid Voldemort in the first place, there wouldn't really be a Harry, and then where would the plot be? in the last book if harry was like, "Oh gosh, let's use a bloody time turner to go back and make it so Voldemort bloody never existed, but let's still hook my mum up with my dad, not Snape, and make sure the chromosomes are right so i'm not a girl, that I would be in the same train car as Ron, and do all the stuff i have already done so I can just relive my childhood!" Yeah right!
I absolutely agree with Natalie. Harry wld not have been born had there not been a Voldemort. Snape wld never have turned dark. Lily wld never have fallen for James. As said earlier JKR has done complete justice to the books. :-)
Hermione was given the time turner because she needed it for academic reasons that were never supposed to mess with anything except the number of classes she was able to take. Dumbledore was a chance for them to do something good with the time turner that, in the long run, didn't really affect people that much. It is an extremely powerful device and because of that I'm sure that it is rarely used in serious situations such as life and death. On top of that they are obviously extremely rare. Hermione got one, but I doubt that they are given to many people even if they had good intentions because the potential for something to go wrong is so high. There was not much that Hermione, an extremely smart and responsible student, could do on a well guarded school campus under the supervision of Dumbledore. It would be a very bad decision to take a device like that out into a world where it could easily fall into the wrong hands and anyone could use it. Imagine if that power was given to voldemort? And if they were to use a time turner there is no guarantee that they would be able to stop voldemort. It was hard enough for them to save buckbeak and sirius and that was in a safe environment they knew well with the help from a powerful wizard and with very few enemies. In addition to that there are so many precautions you have to take to make sure the order of events stays the same. There are just too many things that could go wrong by using a time turner out in the world to change life and death situations.
In order to save a life you'd have to change the past and it would be nearly impossible not to be seen. And they can't be seen. And also all the time turners where destroyed
someone earlier mentioned that they could have gone back in time to kill Riddle before he became Voldemort. I don't think anyone has mentioned this but what if someone did exactly that to a-lets call him/her Lord Kronos, the actual Dark Lord and because it already happened, Tom Riddle was sadly chosen to replace the previous Dark Lord that no one knew about because someone time traveled and killed him. Darren Shan, author of the vamipire assistant series, makes this a possibility. If we were to go back in time and murder, i dunno Hitler, some poor fellow would be born to replace him. Different person/name, but with the same results.
Keep in mind all the time turners were destroyed in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. Also, a lot of people think it's a plot flaw that JKR allowed Hermione to use a time turner for something as "unnecessary" as taking more classes or that they used the time turner to save Sirius and Buckbeak but not go back to when Harry was a baby and save his parents and defeat Voldemort then and there. But could you imagine if they went back in time and did that? It would be too risky. Changing an event that big which happened so many years ago would have too dangerous an effect on the present day. Hermione using the time turner for her classes or going to save Sirius or Buckbeak was an event that in doing so would barely affect their present day at all seeing as though they were only going back a few hours and not affecting the lives of many other people. Also keep in mind that the possibility of using a time turner against Voldemort in book 5 is impossible because the ministry would never give them a time turner to do so since they did not trust Dumbledore or any member of The Order of the Phoenix In not believing that Voldemort was back.
On Pottermore Rowling admitted that when she added time travelling she didn't think about the complications it would have on the plot. That's why she ruined them in the 5th book... Don't mess with time travel. It just causes major plot holes and discussions/debates. Just look at Doctor Who, Back to the Future and (worst of all) Terminator. ;)
Thought so, Emma :)Personally I want to know why the Golden Six didn't just floo to London in Order of the Phoenix. It would have been faster than Thestrals. Umbridge's fire was open....

(The thestral question comes up a lot. We've had a couple of topics about it. Here's one: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...)
