Timothy (jeditimothy) | 10 comments I hope this is the right spot for this. but I was wondering if there are any fans of the following worlds:

DRAGONLANCE
FORGOTTEN REALMS
DARK SUN
RAVENLOFT

message 2: by Wastrel (new)

Wastrel | 51 comments Worlds? Yes, definitely. Dragonlance through nostalgia, Ravenloft, and also Dark Sun hypothetically, although I don't really know much about it - I like the concept. i've played games in FR, and read a lot of books, but never liked the setting - there isn't really a world, just a blank slate.

Books, though? No. Varying between 'not really' and 'oh god no' depending on the book. Some of them are fun, but the overall quality is very low.

[Of course, the real question is: why not SPELLJAMMER or PLANESCAPE!?!?!?!???].

Dragonlance was my first fantasy love. I read Dragonlance Chronicles: Dragons of Autumn Twilight/Dragons of Winter Night/Dragons of Spring Dawning when I was in high school and loved every minute of it. Never really played D&D however, but have played some good computer games and MMORPGs.

message 4: by Traci (new)

Traci Never played but I used to love the books. Dragonlance got me started in fantasy. I came to Forgotten Realms later. Still like them occasionally but not as much as I used to. They're fun though.

Timothy (jeditimothy) | 10 comments I loved the spelljammer books they were fantastic read.
crossovering both dragonlance & forgotten realms.
as for planescape never really read or played the game.

Timothy (jeditimothy) | 10 comments I was wondering is there a chronological reading order for the forgotten realms?

message 7: by Gabriel (new)

Gabriel I've read a series of Forgotten Realms. Ed Greenwood wrote a series called The Knights of Myth Drannor Swords of Eveningstar (Forgotten Realms Knights of Myth Drannor, #1) by Ed Greenwood I am looking at the inside of Greenwood's book and he has several series placed in the Forgotten Realms.

I believe Tracy Hickman and margaret Weis write dragonlance books

Travis | 11 comments When I was younger, I read Dragonlance (the first 6 books) and was totally hooked. I downloaded the first two eBooks and tried reading them again. Sadly, I was disappointed. Kind of like going back to your childhood home and everything feels smaller and not as magical. *sigh*

message 9: by Timothy (new)

Timothy (jeditimothy) | 10 comments @ gabriel yes ed greenwood wrote a lote for the FR's he is one of the founders fot the fiction universe.

message 11: by Kris43 (new)

Kris43 | 9 comments YES! I love Ravenloft. Its considered quite a obscure world, not many people even know about it and are always asking me if the book quality is any good. It is!

Ravenloft has a gothic-horror setting and can appear anywhere to swallow up new worlds. Dark forces that rule there are attracted to evil in other worlds. But what you really need to know is that when the mists appear, you're in trouble:)

I also like Forgotten Realms.
Haven't jet read any of DragonLance.

message 12: by Timothy (new)

Timothy (jeditimothy) | 10 comments Do you have a nook or kindel? Because they are all coming out in e form. Now have you gotten the ravenloft board game?

message 13: by Kris43 (new)

Kris43 | 9 comments No, never played the board game. Never managed to get the right people together.

I read on my Laptop and all my books are in there, not enough room for the 'real' ones.
I do have Kindle for pc, but prefer Calibre and use it for all my book-ish needs.

message 14: by Kris43 (new)

Kris43 | 9 comments There is a chronological timeline. But there is no real need to read novels in any strict order. Its not set in stone:)

Each series deals with its own events, and it usually explains all you need to know at the beginning.

I looked up Forgotten Realms on wiki, so i got a general idea on what it is, then i took a series that looked interesting.

Guy Sciancalepore | 3 comments I enjoy reading Forgotten Realms the most, though I have read a few Dragonlance and Dark Sun Novels.

message 16: by Timothy (new)

Timothy (jeditimothy) | 10 comments Well out of all of them draglance is my favorite game universe.
Just no kender's in the party.

message 17: by Oj (new)

Oj Stapleton | 6 comments The first real novel I ever read was a Forgotten Realms book - Shadowdale.

I wound up reading the whole series and fell in love with the genre. I read pretty much every FR novel that came out prior to 1993 or so. And I read most of the important Dragonlance books and most of the Dark Sun books too (I loved the first Dark Sun series).

I still have very fond memories of devouring Forgotten Realms novels as a young teenager and most of those paperbacks are still in my bookshelf.

message 18: by Angelof (new)

Angelof I recently read the Dragonlance Chronicles and R.A. Salvatore's Thousand Orcs (Hunter's Blade trilogy book 1). Thousand Orcs was my first Salvatore book and I enjoyed it so much, I'm picking up whatever book of his I can find. I enjoyed Dragonlance Chronicles a lot too and am interested in checking out the other books eventually. I have Dragonlance Legends waiting on my shelf.

message 19: by Timothy (new)

Timothy (jeditimothy) | 10 comments Do you have a nook? if you do a lot of dragonlance & forgotten realm novels are becoming aviable on it.

message 20: by Angelof (new)

Angelof nope I don't :(

message 21: by Oj (new)

Oj Stapleton | 6 comments I'd be interested in going back and reading some of the old Forgotten Realms novels again on my Nook.

Like the original RA Salvatore series. What was it called? Icewind Dale or something like that? Interestingly, that was the only series with Drizzt that I cared for back when I was reading that stuff. I know he was by far the most popular FR character, but he never really held my attention all that much.

message 22: by Timothy (new)

Timothy (jeditimothy) | 10 comments The entire dritzz series is on the nook. I am looking for nook friends by the way: timothy adams tfadamst@yahoo.com
