Veronica Why is it that a book that has not even been released yet already has a TV series being produced on The CW while there are so many great book out already with millions of fans who have been loyal for years that have never been considered for anything? :(

Please don't take this as me hating on the book. I am excited to read it. I'm just curious.

I like that answer haha ;)

Lucy They're attempting to ride on the coattails of the rise in Dystopian interest.

Twilight made money so they bought The Vampire Diaries and it is their most successful show. The Hunger Games is making big money and so they buy The Selection... they should have shopped around for a better book.

Joya It's really not a bad premise for a TV show. Not all books are simple enough to be translated into a TV show. (and that's a compliment to better books)

Yeah, they have to make things happen PER episode unlike a movie where they have a few hours and multiple releases.

One thing that's getting to me now is that "The Immortal Rules" has been picked up for a movie when, IF ANYTHING, "The Iron Fey" should have been the #1 option! Gah...

Lavender I'm really excited about the show. And, as people have said, some books just aren't movie/television material. The dystopian genre has really gotten popular, especially since all those people jumped on the Hunger Games bandwagon. But yeah. I'm super excited about the TV series and the next book.

I'm excited to see what they'll do with it. I love this book and can't wait for the show. Funny enough, I'm not a bachelor fan and I'm a big fan of dystopian either. It's too depressing.

Yeah, I don't get all the craze about our doomed future, lol!

Jessica the rights for books for TV/Movie production are often purchased before the book is even out.

And of all books in the genre, I think The Selection is one best fit for TV, an The CW in particular. I think its easier to drag this book out more and focus on the characters, since the book already does this, than most others which are far better suited for a movie.

Plus there's no special effects needed for this, thus low budget needed, better for a low ranked network

Scarlett I don't know how to feel about this actually. But mostly I really disagree on turning into a TV Show irregardless if it was before or after the book was published. Dystopian books (except zombie apocalypse) fits as a TV series. First, you need to know that people are catching up on the 'america is gone etc etc' thing first then there's a lottery. It's like the hunger games ... but it was better as a movie right?

Then "The Selection" hasn't even lasted enough to have a sort of fans or fandom for it to click. Then there's the thing that it's still on going; if you put it as a TV series, it makes things faster right? The second book haven't even been made yet (No cover, no expected publication, etc) how the hell are they going to keep it going? I doubt it'll make 1 whole season

Joya People watch the Bachelor and this is very similar so the concept has already been tested. They really don't need to wait for the books to have more of a following or for the series to be completed.

I watch True Blood and the majority of friends I discuss it with have never picked up the books and never will and don't even care that it ever was a book.

Emma Why is it that America doesn't question Aspen about why he was with another girl? He could have been cheating so she would stay away to go live a better, wealthier life!

Nicole Yeah, I really want to watch the movie... I think it will be good if it's anything like the book. The thing is that you guys might think the book is cheesy, but I think its pretty cool. It would make a good movie. Does anyone know what date its gonna be out?

Jamie To me it's almost a form of plagiarism to make a book into a movie. I mean seriously just take the time and sit down and come up with an awesome idea. You never see movies made into books. Why? Cause authors are creative and they actually spend time and think. Again this is just my opinion.

Emma Actually, The Selection is being made into a TV show by CW, not a movie. I believe they have shot about eight pilots already!

well the author's get paid. they sell the movie/tv rights. studios don't just steal the ideas.

Meredith Klein there is no longer going to be a tv show thats what i heard and not all books are cut out for movies some make way better books so why ruin them with a movie anyways i see your point though kinda silly because they don't know how people will like the book ithink a movie/tv show would be really cool though i would definatly watch it

Veronica I would like some of my favorite books to be done by Showtime or HBO. They do an amazing job with historical fiction/fantasy which my favorite books all are :)

The Borgias <3
Game of Thrones <3
Camelot <3
The Tudors <3

Nicole MoyJoy: Yeah... Sometimes the author doesn't care about the movie as long as the money rolls in! But I hope it will be good... :)
Veronica: I think I've read "The Tudors"...

I don't think the show was based off of a book series but it was amazing :)

Nicole Really? What was it based on? Haven't seen it.

message 23: by Veronica (new)

Veronica I think it was just based off of the general history. It's available on Netflix instant play, I believe.

Definitely a mature/adult show (like all the other shows I listed).
