Saxonjus I agree!

message 202: by Mary (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mary Yes. I read this book like it was a movie.

Mischief As long as Tim Burton produces it. I think he is the only one who could give it the magic. Someone send a tweet to him and suggest it - I'm not on Twitter.

message 204: by Alison (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alison Well if it's Tim Burton... Johnny Depp as Chandresh or maybe Hector Bowen..?

Michelle Graf I would pay my life's savings to watch a movie of this! But in the wrong hands, it could be ruined for me, and I absolutely don't want that. It's hard to decide whether the risk is worth it.

Shannon I personally wouldn't want to see this movie because the plot happens over a long time and jumps around (which would just be awkward). Also, the book allows readers to give their imaginations "free-rein" and I don't think a movie would please me with all the amazingness I got out of the book.
However, I would be interested to see other readers' perspectives on what certain characters/parts of the circus/scenes in the story looked like. In this respect, a movie would be quite interesting!

message 207: by Kate (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kate O'keefe I think that under really good direction, it could work. The writing is very visual, so it gives filmmakers a lot to work with. Some things might be a little hard to translate, but I think it would work.

Shannon Alison wrote: "Well if it's Tim Burton... Johnny Depp as Chandresh or maybe Hector Bowen..?"

Okay, I have to admit that would be cool!

message 209: by Kayci (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kayci I would love to see it as a movie, I think if they could do it right it would be phenomenal but as a lover of books, and not movies, I have to say that there is a certain novelty to an amazing book, not ruined by film adaption. My only problem would be that it would be such a hard book to adapt, since there are so many different ways a director could change it, and possibly mess it up.

Danielle I won't want it to be turned into a movie because, the producers might ruin it. The Night Circus is quite a challenging movie to make. I mean, all the magic and how the circus look like... It would be hard.
At the same time, I wish to be able to visually see the entire circus and the beautiful ball rooms and gowns. XD

message 211: by Kim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kim Mccormick Maybe if the right director had it, but certainly NOT Tim Burton. I loved this book and often find myself thinking about it and all the magic behind it. Every charactor is important to the story and movies usually cutout some of them, that would be aweful. So unless they are going follow the book... please do not make it a movie....

message 212: by Carol (new) - rated it 5 stars

Carol M I would like to SEE this movie and how someone envisions the circus rooms and the tents and the costumes. Whoever said to animate it is on to something and I like the idea of turning it into a mini series. I think if it is put on film, it will mostly likely be disappointing but that will not stop me from going to see it.

Michelle Yes, please.
It has the potential to be visually stunning.

message 214: by Jerome (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jerome Something like Thomas Newman revolutionary road score would be great for the movie.

message 215: by Bird (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bird I would like to see the movie! I think the special effects will be amazing :)
I don't know much about movies, actors, directors etc. But I do like Tim Burton movies and I think he'll do a good job on this.

message 216: by Natali (new) - rated it 5 stars

Natali Yes please!

message 217: by Amy (last edited Jul 08, 2013 06:45PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy They are developing the movie and it is supposed to come out in like 2016...

Melissa I'd see this in theaters if it were made into a movie. I would just hope they could do the book justice. It has such a magical feel to it.

message 219: by Briana (new) - added it

Briana YES!!! This book gave such rich description from beginning to end. Such a beautifully written story and world--would LOVE to see it on the big screen

Hanguin Oh yessssss
A movie and an animated movie also ... <3

message 221: by Hana (new) - rated it 3 stars

Hana Yes, it should be made into a movie with crazy special effects and beautiful sets.

Dandelion no ~ no peak can be found in this book ~ there was a bit mysterious at the beginning; but right after that, the whole story just went flat.

Elizabeth I would love to see it as a movie. Not for the plot which was lacking but for the special effects.

message 224: by Amanda (last edited Aug 16, 2013 03:20PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Amanda While I would love this book to be made into a movie if done well, most books made into movies are disappointing and would hate to see that happen to yet another wonderful book.

message 225: by I love books (new)

I love books No, I do not think so. This book was so stimulating to visualize, I cannot imagine a movie. But if they do make it into a movie, I am glad I read this delicious masterpiece first.

message 226: by Teresa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Teresa I would totally watch if this book became a movie. Her writting is so detailed! You can imagine right aways the circus. I would love love love if this book became a movie.

message 227: by Reign (new) - rated it 5 stars

Reign Yes, but only if they can get some of the Cirque de Soleil performers for the movie. Night Circus seems like a good mix of New Age Cir. de Sol. type whimsical performances, but also some of the black and white striped darker freak show performances. Nothing gross, but perhaps just a little bit uncomfortable.
It would be one of the few movies that would have a purpose for being shot in 3D.

message 228: by Krys (new) - rated it 5 stars

Krys (Krys Reads) Chad wrote: "I think that while it would be moderately difficult to portray the character development and convert the writing style to cinema, I do believe that the special effects would be stunning!"

I couldn't agree with you more. Considering how far cinematography has come in the last decade plus, it would be absolutely mesmerizing to see what Hollywood would conjure up!

Cassandra Though I believe Tim Burton's dark and unorthodox approach to filmmaking would be good for this film, I think Tom Hooper (director of Les Miserables and King's Speech) is a creative visionary too and could definitely take this book into a whole new level!

message 230: by Joy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Joy I believe Morgenstern's work would make a fantastic movie under the right direction. Getting my hopes up that happens someday!

message 231: by Andrea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Andrea Seaver Mika: that is a fabulous idea. I think the movie would be visually stunning, but the characters would be hard to portray.

message 232: by Shawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Shawn Spjut Absolutely...stunning book. Though to do it credit, I think it would have to be done surrealistically...which is how the novel is written. Something on the order of 'Moulin Rouge'

message 233: by Nina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nina Chad wrote: "Idk....one of my friends said that it should be a Tim Burton film..."

I didn't get a Tim Burton vibe when I read it, but that is actually an interesting idea.

message 234: by Nina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nina The book is very atmospheric, but not very plot driven. The enjoyment is in the details, the colors and sensual description that is woven into every scene. In the right directors hands it could translate well - in others it would pale and not be adapted well to film.

message 235: by Debbie (last edited Nov 18, 2013 08:38PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Debbie Chad wrote: "Idk....one of my friends said that it should be a Tim Burton film..."

Oddly enough, I would think Burton would take this too far into his world and it might ruin it. Don't get me wrong, he is fabulous, but a bit too stylized for this. This book needs a softer touch. Perhaps Martin Socrsese he did a good job on Hugo, never read the book, but LOVED the movie. Or Peter Ramsey, he did Rise of the Guardians, it'll have to feel more velvety that that, but he might do.

message 236: by Debbie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Debbie Jeanie wrote: "Of course the visual elements of the Night Circus are tailor-made for film. Other elements of what made this book so special won't translate as well. ... I'm afraid everyone would end up disappointed in some significant aspect of the book that was changed and few, if any, would be thoroughly pleased. But the visuals might be so worth it! "

Perhaps if the movie were only loosely based on the book, kept the tone and the visual elements it might be just fine. Of course the fact that it is only loosely based would have to be made absolutely clear, maybe even with a different title and the book's name as a subtitle?

Agree, this movie should be beatiful and imaginative, but not creepy

Carolyn Birrittella Amy wrote: "I would love to be made into a movie but so many awesome books get ruined this way... Tim burton would be good to direct it though..."

Great idea! I would love to see what Tim Burton would do with Night Circus.

message 239: by Lunar (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lunar I would love to see it as a movie, though unfortunately I don't think there's enough of a plot to make it overly interesting. For some people, it might be too slow. But, visually, it would be STUNNING. And that's why I would go and see it.

message 240: by Nicole (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nicole Ashley I think it would be amazing to be able to see this in theaters but i think it would pretty hard to get certain things in there like the clock.

message 241: by Gerd (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gerd Yarrow wrote: "I would love to see it as a movie, though unfortunately I don't think there's enough of a plot to make it overly interesting. For some people, it might be too slow. But, visually, it would be STUNNING..."

Oh, I don't know about there not being enough plot for a movie, there's lots of them being made that solely live off style over substance, compared to which The Night Circus might offer still too much story. :D

I fear rather that the underlying story will not be presented as subtly as it is done in the book

Shawn wrote: I think with the right director, like Tim Burton, the book would come to life. It has all the makings for the macabre he is so brilliant at.

Carolyn Birrittella I think there's plenty of plot for a movie. The screenwriter(s) could always adjust the placement of plot points to more neatly reflect the requirements of a screenplay. Yes to Tim Burton. Yes!

message 244: by LiN (new)

LiN I don't know but the words movie and casting make me nervous because I adore this book and I would hate to see it represented in the incorrect way. I mean the graphics would be amazing but I'm scared for the casting and story plot because there the story is a beautiful and dark one, it has to have the right touch for to work out :) But at the end of the day it would be wonderful to bring this book to life on the screen :)

message 245: by T (new)

T Sanders never thought I'd say this but it would make a better movie, you know, tighten it up a bit.

message 246: by Kanchi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kanchi It'll make for a great film!! Tim Burton would be amazing! I must admit, he never crossed my mind but the moment I read his name in this context, it made perfect sense!! Also, I always had Alan Rickman in my head as Mr. A.H. Also, I think Johnny Depp or Robert Downey Jr. would be good for Prospero. I can just see them carrying out Porspero's arrogance and panache with the right amount of evil.

Caitlin Welborn I'm not normally a fan of adaptations because they can stray from the book more than my liking. But if the write director were to do this with the right casting I think it could easily be a good nominee for an adaption. Though I worry a little about character development I think the special affects would be very cool. I would like to see what an adaptation of this book would look like.

message 249: by Keith (new) - rated it 5 stars

Keith I am sure that it will make it to the screen one day but by all things bright and good I hope that Tim Burton is NOT chosen to direct it.

Do you not like T. B. in general or just not for this?
