Question about Mrs. Joe's behavior towards Orlick
Butterfly Butterfly Mar 12, 2012 09:38AM
I was a bit confused by Mrs. Joe's behavior towards Orlick after the attack. Why was she being so kind and concilliatory towards him? She knew it was Orlick who attacked her, right?

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

I have the idea that Mrs Joe knew it all the time. However she became disabled and no one understood her that he attacked her.

Remember also that she was a woman of bad temperament, greedy and proud, although she was basically good and intelligent. Maybe due to the attack she changed her ways, she became more flexible and knew that she wouldn't live any longer so she had to make peace with God.
