Alyssa (The Shady Glade) (shadyglade) | 22 comments Sounds kind of like Treasure at the Heart of the Tanglewood to me, although the cover description is off from your recollection, so that might not be it.

Natalie | 149 comments Also, it's not green, but I think maybe one of the first editions might've been, but Into the Wild! It fits your description, like, perfectly.

This doesn't fit exactly, but what about Green Angel by Alice Hoffman? It has the girl, with the mother dead. I don't recall an father, but it's been awhile since I read it.

Sam | 1 comments Plot isn't exactly the same but what about The Land of Elyon series the first book is called The Dark Hills Divide.

Rachel Piper (rachelpiper) | 20 comments Could it be The Silver Crown? Green cover here on an older edition. It's been a while since I've read it, but a lot of it does take place in a forest, and there are definite dystopic elements involving mind control and propaganda, I believe. I don't recall the status of the mother, but I think the dad is bad in some way.

Diana Welsch | 530 comments Sounds slightly like Gathering Blue. Ring a bell?

laurenpie | 131 comments Tender Morsels, Tender Morsels or Tender Morsels? (Those are three different jacket covers, two of them green.) The plot sounds just the same. It was a fairly dark YA book. Not old enough, though, this one is 2008.

laurenpie | 131 comments Not sure why this link is marked as solved--I can't tell which novel was the right one? Maybe if the OP deletes his/her profile, we can no longer view their response comments in the link?

Probably it was solved and then when the OP deleted their account they chose to have all their site comments deleted too.

My understanding is when you delete your account, you can choose to have all your postings/comments stay, or be deleted.

laurenpie | 131 comments Hmm, that's certainly understandable, though unfortunate for these threads.
