♥ Rebecca ♥ By far Mat overall. I am ashamed to say in EotW I thought he was annoying. What was wrong with me?! I also loved Nynaeve for a long time but I got over that after she started thinking of herself as full Aes Sedai. She become sort of stuck up, although her strength of character and her temper are why I loved her in the first place. I switched to Egwene for fave female after she was captured by the White Tower. I really admire how she dealt with that situation.

Joshua C | 2 comments I think that the antagonists are never really on anyone's list of fav characters but for me I found that they all were very interesting to the plot and full experience of the books. Out of all antagonists I found that Demandred was really amazing in his cool demeanor and his role in the final battle complimented him! Along with Demandred, Rand and Moiraine were among my favourites.

Roberto Wallace | 2 comments I loved Padan Fain post Shadar Logoth with a passion, he sure knows how to deal with fades. I wish we got to read more about him.
Other than that i loved Mat and Tom like pretty much everyone, and also Lanfear. Verin is really interesting too.

Egwene, elayne, nynaeve, elaida or perrin/fayle make me want to punch them in the face, perrin especially.

message 104: by Pheonix (new)

Pheonix I easily love Mat and Egwene the most. Don't know why everyone gets annoyed by her she is seriously the only really strong female character and is ridiculously badass. Mat is just adorably clueless and more than a little bit of an ass but he has a true heart.

message 105: by Ismail (new)

Ismail | 6 comments Mat and Min are my favourites. Mat cares for everyone even though he tries to tell himself otherwise and Min is the most level headed.

Elayne I found the most annoying due to her arrogance and the way she is always getting herself nearly killed. At times I almost wished she would be.

message 106: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 4 comments I really like Tam. He got out in the world and became a Swordmaster through hard work and discipline, he fought with courage in the Aiel war, he found love abroad, and he adopted an orphaned baby in the midst of war. Love in action. He had an open mind and heart, but solid principles. And I love how amazing he was when the Trollops attacked his home in the first book, how wise he was in Perrin's army later, and without his solid advice Rand would never have fully integrated his two halves. I believe Tam saved the world one kind deed at a time. I find inspiration in that, he wasn't ta'veren, but his presence made a difference--and we can, too.

message 107: by Emily (new)

Emily Parr | 4 comments Matt hands down!! Can't get enough of his flaming craziness!

I also really liked Androl
Rand changes so much through it all. I think I liked him best when he was in the waste with the aiel.

message 108: by Jakub (new)

Jakub Bialek | 1 comments The choice of names in this book was rather poor: Gitara - a guitar in Polish. Moiraine almost like glacial moraine :D

message 109: by Adam (new)

Adam Berry | 6 comments Nynaeve for sure

message 110: by Evan (new)

Evan (naturescreed) | 5 comments Matt bloody Cauthon takes my top spot. Perrin 2nd, and later books Rand is 3rd. So many great characters though, one of my favorite things about this series was the character development that went into it. Characters I couldn't stand mid way through became favorites towards the end.

I agree, I could not stand Matt in the first couple of books, and then toward the end he was my favorite characters. I loved Perrin in the first few books and then by the end he became so boring. Rand was always consistent.

message 112: by Evan (new)

Evan (naturescreed) | 5 comments Favorite secondary characters would be Thom, Loial, and Talmanes.

...also a shout out for Bella!

message 113: by J.J. (new)

J.J. Well it depends if you've finished all 14 books. In the beginning my favorite was Rand and Lan. Then after finishing all the books I would have to say Matrim Cauthon. I mean come on now, he got that dark sickness which needed a coven of Aes Saidai to heal him, which later in the books it comes that catching that sickness helped him. Then he's ta'varen, and all the luck goes his way and he gets the memories of all the great battle commanders of the past and has a very sexy, battle ready empriest to marry. He practically won the war with his battle genius.
Aviendha and Brigitte are my other favorites

message 114: by Shelby (new)

Shelby | 2 comments Lan is my fave from start to finish. I also liked Brigitte all the way through. Rhuarc and the other Aiel Clan Chiefs with their pragmatic approach, and Aiel in general, grounded the story. Wash the spears!

Tony Hamilton (tonybolony73) | 3 comments One of the greatest draws to this series is my favourite character evolves throughout. There are books where I'm super excited to read about Mat or Perrin and then it shifts to Egwene or Nynaeve. It seems to depend on the challenge that they face and how they react or deal with it. I personally really like the women in the series unlike some of the common criticisms I see. The dynamic between characters and how they play off one another is why I keep re-reading this series over and over again.
If I had to pick a favourite that is consistent for me - it would have to be Aviendha.

message 116: by Sean (new)

Sean Helms (sirseanmacgregor) | 3 comments Mat, especially when the dice are rolling in his head, but much less so when he is with Tuon.

message 117: by Slick (new)

Slick | 7 comments Mat and Rand. I cant decide haha

message 118: by Sean (new)

Sean Helms (sirseanmacgregor) | 3 comments Loial. I have seriously geeked out on this series, having read and listened to it seven times, and I have found my favorite has changed and included Rand, Lan,Mat and now I must add Loial. I can't help but like the big guy...he's so pure and innocent and full of heart.

message 119: by Cole (new)

Cole | 1 comments Mat for sure.

message 120: by Brian (last edited Mar 30, 2020 08:12AM) (new)

Brian Cedar | 2 comments It's hard to say but I loved all of these characters very much:
Rand
Moraine
Egwene
Elayne
Aviendah
Androl

At times I liked Perrin a lot but that got spoiled by really not liking Faile for a very long time. And Mat had moments but I found him to be kind of dumb to touch that dagger and really didn't think much of him for a long time. Then it got more interesting with him just as he met Tuon and Tuon wasn't a fun character to read about either. Of the three boys Rand is the only one who seemed to have much sense with matching with women that were good for him.

message 121: by Chelsey (new)

Chelsey Stonehouse | 18 comments Mat and Avienda. Hands down.

message 122: by Steven (new)

Steven Heininger (tcomc44) | 2 comments Hard to pick one, so here's a trio.

1 - Moiraine - the anchor through much of the story.
2 - Mat - The character who develops the most.
Aviendha - The fish out of water who's concepts of the world get battered and bruised, forced to be someone other than who she wanted to be and deals with it all.

I wanted to put Min on the list. But she comes off a little too passive for me.

The more interesting question to ask here would be who really deserves to end up with Rand.

message 123: by Edgarf (new)

Edgarf | 6 comments I am in the process of reading WOT for the first time. I just completed reading the first book in the series last night. I'll begin reading The Great Hunt this evening. My favorite characters so far are Rand, Perrin, Moraine, and Thom. I am hoping Thom comes back in book 2.

As I stated in a post I made on this thread, I am reading WOT for the first time and only completed the first book. So far Mat has been least favorite character, annoying in fact. Hopefully, I will see that development. Most of that annoyance had to do with the effects of the dagger.

Natasha | 14 comments Egwene! Can't wait to see how she's portrayed in the show.

message 126: by Christian (new)

Christian Dutlinger (whiskeydut) | 2 comments The Gambler! Easily Mat. Especially after he visits Rhuidian. To me, he is the most relatable character. I love the way he develops and love the magic of luck. He has values, confidence, and he does not apologize for who he is. Elayne is constantly berating him and speaking down to him, but it never stops him from risking his life to pull her out of the frying pan. His battle scenes and memories are some of the best chapters in the series. Love the Band chapters.
Bloody snakes and foxes! Burn me! Blood and bloody ashes!

message 127: by Chris (new)

Chris King (cking83) | 2 comments I'm about half way through book two and it's a toss between Lan and Mat at the moment. Land because he really is becoming more interesting and I feel their may be more to come with current developments.
And Mat because he makes me laugh even when I feel it's not that sort of scene, which in some parts, it can get extremely heavy and go on for a little to long. I find Mat breaks the tension perfectly and balances it well.

message 128: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (byrdbibliophyle) | 2 comments I'm in the middle of book 12 now. For a long time Perrin was my favorite, but recently I think Mat has actually taken the lead. Which is funny, since I didn't like him at all at first!

message 129: by Edgarf (new)

Edgarf | 6 comments I’m toward the end of book 9 and at this point I’d say Mat. The problem is there’s not enough of him.

message 130: by Lucian (new)

Lucian Bridges I was not so keen on Rand at the beginning, but thought he became more interesting as his character became darker. I always like Perin throughout, but also quite liked Logain.
