Theresa (tsorrels) This topic is on another group that I am in and it is a great way to get exposure to new titles and, well, it is fun to talk about what books you have bought recently or what books you just picked up at the library...

(The titles don't have to be UF-related to be posted here.)

message 2: by Theresa (last edited Dec 10, 2008 09:06AM) (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) I'll go ahead and start since I just bought some books as a early Christmas present to myself... :)

Tall, Dark, and Cajun by Sandra Hill
Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James
Webmage by Kelly McCullough
Dead Reign by T.A. Pratt
Dark Rain by Tony Richards
When Will There Be Good News?: A Novel by Kate Atkinson

message 3: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (areadinglady) Bitten, by Kelley Armstrong
Good Omens, by Terry Pratchett
Star Trek Destiny 1 and 2 (Gods of Night; Mere Mortals)

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 138 comments Brimstone Kiss (Delilah Street, Paranormal Investigator, Book 2) by Carole Nelson Douglas

message 5: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 169 comments OMG Good Omens is SOOOOOOO funny. Best enjoyed if you're familliar with British culture/humour some.

Recent finds...

The Negotiator trilogy by C E Murphy (I'm enjoying this way more than the Urban shaman series)

message 6: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Joseph, let me know how Brimstone Kiss is... I read the first book in the series and was kind of so-so about it. I've debated picking up Kiss, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Have you read the first book? What did you think of it?

message 7: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 138 comments Theresa, I'm pretty much enjoying Douglas's new series. The characters are different from the usual you find in urban fantasy which makes them interesting and the plot is just good enough that it has me wanting to keep reading to find out what happens next. IMO, it's good enough to make it worth a one-time read, like The Negotiator trilogy by C E Murphy was for me, but I don't think I'll be rereading them anytime soon, like I like to do with works by authors like Kim Harrison, Yasmine Galenorn, Kelley Armstrong, and Carrie Vaughn.

message 8: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jen421) | 32 comments My most recent book buys were:
1. The Duchess by Amanda Foreman
2. Brethren by Robyn Young
3. Crusade by Robyn Young

Is there any other kind of humor? LOL! I totally love Brit wit. I can't wait to get into Good Omens--I didn't get a chance to start reading yesterday like I anticipated! *pouts*

message 10: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Recently purchased all of the Wolf Tales books, 1 through 6, by Kate Douglas.

Also got all of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books. Some I got from the library the others I had to buy.

Waiting to be picked up at the library is "Love at First Bite".

message 11: by Kait (new)

Kait (katiebear) I picked up Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews (loved it!) and The Outlaw Demon Wails by Kim Harrison.

Speaking of Kims... I really need to see if Kim Wilkins has written anything new lately. I absolutely ADORE her.

message 13: by Jess (new)

Jess I just picked up the first book of Keri Arthur's book - part of the Riley Jensen series called Full moon Rising.

message 14: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 22 comments Here's my stack of books sitting on my kitchen table. Maybe I will finish reading them all before next Christmas. It is hard, because I keep getting other books from the library. And I was working. I've been reading more than ever during the Christmas break.

Nightwalker by Jocelynn Drake
Feast of Fools by Rachel Caine, Book 4 of the Morganille Vampires series
Destiny Kills by Keri Arthur
Any Given Doomsday by Lori Handeland
The Devil Inside by Jenna Black
The Final Warning by James Patterson, Maximum Ride series
Sea Witch by Virginia Kantra
Many Bloody Returns, edited by Charlaine Harris and Toni L.P. Kelner
Blood Noir by Laurell K. Hamilton, Anita Blake series
Swallowing Darkness by Laurell K. Hamilton, Meredith Gentry series
Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Dark Hunter series

message 15: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Blood Noir by Laurell K. Hamilton, Anita Blake series
Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Dark Hunter series

These two are fabulous!

message 16: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 138 comments I recently gave in and purchased Reserved for the Cat by Mercedes Lackey. I decided, what the heck, I had a 30% off coupon for Borders, might as well use it for a book I enjoyed reading and would like to have for my own library so I could reread it whenever I wanted to.

message 17: by Mona (new)

Mona | 2 comments Just finished the fourth book in the House of Night series, reading Demon's Kiss by Eve SIlver and 4 short stories called Eternal Lover, also re-reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer, then starting the Vampire Academy novels by Richelle Mead, and Lords of the Underworl by Gena Showalter. In between that, I have started reading the Texas Penal Code and the General Orders of my police department- all though that has nothing to do with Urban Fantasy

message 18: by Clickety (new)

Clickety (clix) | 2 comments I've got The Graveyard Book on my hold list from the library, and I recently returned Evernight, though I'm not sure whether or not that qualifies. And I got The Plucker for Christmas!

message 19: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Arntz (ska1988) i just bought this book today

Midnight's Daughter By Karen Chance

i also bought another book plus two others before Christmas...

message 20: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (areadinglady) Ooh, I just read The Minister's Daughter a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed it and am curious to know what you think about it once you finish!

message 21: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (last edited Jan 08, 2009 06:54PM) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Kami,
I also have Destiny Kills in my TBR pile. I actually started it before Christmas, and had a hard time getting into it. There were a lot of things about Arthur's Riley Jenson series that bugged me, but it always kept me hooked just enough to keep reading. However, this one seems the opposite; it seems to have all the right ingredients, there's nothing about it that I would I say I don't like, but it's just not grabbing me. I'm curious to know what other people think.

Also, I really liked The Devil Inside - the next two books in that series are also in my TBR pile.

FionaBluesBookCafe Black Dagger Brotherhood

message 23: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Ladykati - hope you enjoy the BDB. It's one of my favorite series.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 113 comments I got a little box of heaven in the post the other day when my latest book order arrived:
At Grave's End - Jeaniene Frost - Brilliant, as expected. Love, love, love Cat & Bones!
In the Blood - Adrian Phoenix - I'm absolutely loving this series. A wonderful world with rich characters.
One More Bite - Jennifer Rardin - Lent this one out while I read the other two, but I have big plans for reacquainting myself with Jaz and Vayl on Monday.

message 25: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) I ordered the following from Barnes & Noble today...

Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole
Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand by Carrie Vaughn (not releasing until the end of January)
Cybermancy by Kelly McCullough
Codespell by Kelly McCullough

message 26: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 169 comments Theresa,
Do the Kitty books get better after the first one? I read the first and really did not enjoy it. I tried to read book 2 but just couldn't force myself. I don't like the world and having killed off my favorite character in book 1, I was really put off.

message 27: by Jess (new)

Jess I can't wait for Kiss of a Demon King and Kitty and the Dead man's hand... they should both be really good!

message 28: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Jessica, I was hooked on the Kitty series from the first book so I think I'm a bit biased. :)

message 29: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 22 comments Just got these. Boy is my TBR pile getting enormous!

Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
Dead to Me by Anton Strout
The Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks
Fools' Experiments by Edward M. Lerner

I think I might have a book addiction. Is ther a 12 step program for that? Book reader's anonymous?

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) bought House Of Night 1-4 can't wait to read them.

message 31: by Lioness (new)

Lioness | 2 comments Just finished The Devil You Know by Mike Carey. For a guy who's written comic books before this, he knows how to write a long novel you do not want to put down.

message 32: by Ben (new)

Ben (goodreadsbenstoops) Bought and burned through Mean Streets.
After Mean Streets I jumped into A Walk On The Nightside. The Nightside books are fun and fast reads. Simon Green (the author) also does a great job at scratching the paranormal itch I've developed while waiting for Jim Butcher's next book in the Dresden Files series.

message 33: by Theresa (last edited Jan 22, 2009 08:24AM) (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Ordered a couple today from Amazon.com...

The Sins of Lord Easterbrook by Madeline Hunter (...she is one of my favorite romance authors)
Lament The Faerie Queen's Deception by Maggie Stiefvater
War for the Oaks by Emma Bull (...hoping it wins for February!)

message 34: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 22 comments I got War for the Oaks from the library waiting on my table just in case.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 113 comments Thanks to my credit card reward points, I just got a Barnes and Noble voucher with which I purchased:

* Wicked Game - Jeri Smith-Ready
* Working for the Devil - Lilith Saintcrow
* Sunshine - Robin McKinley
* Vulnerable The First Book of the Little Goddess Series - Amy Lane
* Blood Memories - Barb Hendee
* The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance - Anthology

message 36: by Carol (new)

Carol | 2 comments Thanks to everyone that knows how much I love to read Santa brought me gift certificates to allow me to acquire:
* Acheron
* Night Huntress series
* Murder Game-Feehan
* Blood Noir
* First Evidence-Ken Goddard
* Outer Perimeter-Ken Goddard
All excellent books and of course Ben, I am a Jim Butcher-phile, I can't wait for his next one. I re-read all his books in order periodically as I do Ken Goddard. Kami if you locate a 12 step program it probably won't work for me...I can't count steps high enough. :/

message 37: by Melissa (new)

Melissa DarkHeart - just a little fyi - The Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance will be released in April - I've got the one you have and have been reading bits of it here and there. It's kind of cool to get a little taste of a bunch of different authors. I don't usually like anthologies, but it had so many authors I was interested in, I had to give it a shot.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 113 comments Yes, thanks. I came across that one a while back and placed in on pre-order. I was originally drawn in because the cover had J.R. Ward as the first author listed, however she's since confirmed she isn't in it. Should still be good though!

message 39: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Ordered a couple of new books today...

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
Moonheart by Charles de Lint (for the group read and it just sounds awesome!)

FionaBluesBookCafe Lori wrote: "Ladykati - hope you enjoy the BDB. It's one of my favorite series."

Lori I just finished the BDB guide. Loved them. I can't wait for Rehv's book.

message 41: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Just got the shipping confirmation from Amazon that says Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs (4th book in the Mercy Thompson series) is on it's way to me right now!!!! I can't wait to read this one!

I'm so jealous! Mine hasn't shipped yet, although I'm expecting my copy of Men of the Other World to arrive today.

Last night I placed a B&N order. Having quickly read and enjoyed the first Vampire Academy book for a reading challenge, I ordered the next two in the series. Additionally, I ordered Ravenous The Dark Forgotten as it looked quite interesting.

message 43: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I'm involved in two reading challenges this month...9 books each so I've had to hunt and hunt to get the books I needed for the challenges. Here's what I got:

I'm jealous you get to read Moonheart for the first time. I reread that last year and fell in love with it all over again (and its follow-up Spiritwalk).

Steven

message 45: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 22 comments I got my copy of Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs (4th book in the Mercy Thompson series) in the mail yesterday. As soon as I finish Moonheart, I am going to start it. I hear it is really good.

message 46: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Bone Crossed was very, very good if you ask me! I had read the beginning online several times and when I actually started the book, I had that part almost memorized. I tried really hard to read slow to savor it, but it was just too good and now I have to wait what will seem like forever for another one.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 113 comments I agree, Bone Crossed was brilliant! The Mercy series just keeps getting better and better. The wait for the next book will be slightly less painful with the release of Hunting Ground, although I'm not sure the Alpha & Omega series will ever compare to Mercy for me. We shall see though.

message 48: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I'm hoping there will be some crossovers between the two series. I'd love to get a hint about each of the different worlds each time I read one series or the other.

message 49: by new_user (new)

new_user Can't wait for Hunting Ground!

message 50: by Theresa (last edited Apr 16, 2009 01:30PM) (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Ordered the following from B&N.com:

Daring Time by Beth Kery
The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran
An Indecent Proposition by Emma Wildes
Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas (my first Kleypas book!)
Too Good To Be True by Kristan Higgins

None of which are UF, but I'm on a bit of a romance kick right now. I made a rule for myself recently: for every "fun" book that I read (UF, romance, etc), I have to read one of the more "serious" books on my shelf. This is to help get the bigger, "serious" books off my bookshelf. :)
